SUMMARY:Standout
DESCRIPTION:With no chance at an ordinary life\, he lived an extraordinary one. \n“Standout” tells the inspiring story of Ben Kjar\, born with Crouzon Syndrome — a rare craniofacial disorder. From birth\, doctors warned that his life would be dominated by limitations\, bullying and harsh scrutiny. Despite that prognosis\, Ben yearned for an ordinary life free from judgment and harassment. \nHowever\, each experience of adversity\, including relentless bullying and a series of painful surgeries\, ignited a fire within him. Wrestling became his proving ground\, a place where he learned to transform his facial difference into a source of power. Determined to succeed\, he pushed himself relentlessly\, breaking through physical\, social\, and even romantic barriers that once seemed insurmountable. \nBut as unexpected challenges arose and ridicule resurfaced\, Ben found himself at a defining crossroads: fade into the background of a “normal” life or fully embrace his difference and boldly stand out. \n“Standout” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres Feb. 6-12. Showtimes will be Friday and Wednesday\, Feb. 6 and 11 at 3:30 p.m.; Saturday\, Feb. 7 at 4:00 p.m.; Monday and Thursday\, Feb. 9 and 12 at 6:30 p.m.; and Tuesday\, Feb. 10 at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:The Remarkable Gift of Being Wrong
DESCRIPTION:What if conflict was the doorway to connection? This is the time of year when we celebrate relationships — romantic\, familial\, professional\, and everything in between. And if you’re partnered\, you already know this: a healthy relationship doesn’t mean no conflict. It means learning how to navigate conflict skillfully. \nMost of us were never taught how. \nIn this intimate\, provocative keynote\, Rachel Weir shares a deeply human story of transformation — one that taught her\, in no uncertain terms\, that certainty is the enemy of connection. What begins as a moment of righteous clarity takes an unexpected turn\, revealing how quickly our need to be right can sever the very intimacy we crave. \n \nWith levity and cringe\, humility and depth\, Rachel explores how our addiction to certainty shows up not just in romantic relationships\, but in families\, workplaces\, and culture at large — and how being willing to be wrong can reopen the door to trust\, repair\, and real human connection. \nWithin this simple\, honest story are the seeds of a solution — not just for our relationships\, but perhaps for many of the divisions we’re facing in the world today. \nFollowing the keynote\, the evening will include a live Q&A\, and an opportunity to gently drop into a guided connection practice together — a chance to feel\, not just understand\, what changes when curiosity replaces certainty. \nWhether you’re partnered\, single\, healing\, hopeful\, or simply human — this event is for you. \n“The Remarkable Gift of Being Wrong” will be featured at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Friday\, Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $24 in advance or $30 at the door. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.
