SUMMARY:Oscar Shorts 2026: LIVE ACTION
DESCRIPTION:Now an annual film festival tradition\, Sedona audiences will be able to see all of the short films nominated for Academy Awards before the Oscar telecast on March 15. A perennial hit with audiences around the country (and the world)\, don’t miss this year’s selection of shorts. All of the Live Action Short Film nominees will be featured in this program. \nThe Oscar-nominated Live Action Shorts Program will include: \n \n• Butcher’s Stain (Israel): Samir\, an Arab Israeli working in a supermarket in Tel Aviv\, is accused of tearing down hostage posters in the break room. He sets out to prove his innocence to keep this job that he desperately needs. \n \n• A Friend of Dorothy (U.K.): A lonely widow’s (Miriam Margolyes) quiet life is upended when a teenage boy accidentally kicks his football into her garden. \n \n• Jane Austen’s Period Drama (USA): Set in England in 1813\, in the middle of a long-awaited marriage proposal\, Miss Estrogenia Talbot gets her period. Her suitor\, Mr. Dickley\, mistakes the blood for an injury\, and it soon becomes clear that his expensive education has missed as spot. \n \n• The Singers (USA): An impromptu sing-off will decide the best singer in the bar tonight. \n \n• Two People Exchanging Saliva (France/USA): In a society where kissing is punishable by death and people pay for things by receiving slaps to the face\, Angeline\, an unhappy woman\, shops compulsively in a department store where she becomes fascinated by a playful salesgirl. Despite the prohibition of kissing\, the two become close\, raising the suspicions of a jealous colleague. \nThe Oscar Live Action Shorts Program will show: Friday\, Saturday and Thursday\, March 6\, 7 and 12 at 4:00 p.m.; Monday and Wednesday\, March 9 and 11 at 6:30 p.m.; and Tuesday\, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. All of the Documentary Short Film nominees will be featured in this program. \nThe Oscar-nominated Documentary Shorts Program will include: \n \n• All the Empty Rooms (USA): This film follows correspondent Steve Hartmand and photographer Lou Bopp as they embark on a seven-year-long project to document the empty bedrooms of children killed in school shootings. \n \n• Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud (USA): An intimate chronicle about documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud\, the first American journalist killed while reporting on the Russo-Ukrainian War. \n \n• Children No More: “Were and are Gone” (USA/Israel/U.K.): Israeli peace activists hold silent vigils in Tel Aviv\, displaying photos of Gaza’s young victims. Despite facing public backlash\, their wordless demonstrations powerfully highlight war’s human cost. \n \n• The Devil is Busy (USA): At an Atlanta abortion clinic besieged by protesters\, the director of operations takes necessary risks to safeguard staff and patients. \n \n• Perfectly a Strangeness (Canada/Chile): In the dazzling incandescence of an unknown desert\, three donkeys discover an abandoned astronomical observatory and the universe.
