SUMMARY:Tuesdays with Morrie
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to continue the 2026 season of its Sedona Professional Theatre Company with “Tuesdays with Morrie” live on stage at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre\, running March 20-22. \n“Tuesdays with Morrie” — written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and based on the book by Mitch Albom — stars Chris Mixon and Philip Orazio and is directed by Paul Mason Barnes. \n“Tuesdays with Morrie” is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom\, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career\, and Morrie Schwartz\, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation\, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie\, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life. \n \nCHRIS MIXON\nChris Mixon’s theatre credits include the Utah Shakespeare Festival (12 seasons) and many shows with Salt Lake’s Pioneer Theatre Company\, Milwaukee Rep.\, Cincinnati Playhouse\, Philadelphia Theatre Co.\, George Street Theatre\, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis\, GeVa Theatre Center\, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival (11 seasons)\, the Great River Shakespeare Festival (9 seasons)\, and many shows with the Orlando\, Hudson Valley and Nebraska Shakespeare Festivals. Chris was a resident company member with The Pearl Theatre Company in NYC for 7 years\, and he spent a year touring with Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying starring Ralph Macchio and Roger Bart. Film & TV credits: Law & Order\, One Life to Live\, All My Children and The Rosa Parks Story starring Angela Bassett. \n \nPHILIP ORAZIO\nPhilip Orazio has been working professionally as an actor for the past ten years\, and teaching acting for the past five. After graduating from the University of Houston with an Masters of Fine Arts in Acting\, where he also taught undergraduate acting classes\, Philip moved to LA to further pursue his acting career. Philip has also trained at The University of Portland with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre\, The Del Arte School the Physical Theatre\, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He has acted across the country in regional theaters\, theater festivals\, commercials\, films\, and television shows. He’s been teaching at the Actor‘s Studio of Orange County for the past four years. His courses include Beginning Acting\, Intermediate Acting\, Teen Acting\, Summer Camps\, Film Intensives\, and Film Technique. \n“Tuesdays with Morrie” is generously sponsored by Sandi Schenholm. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It” showing March 20-26 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nFeaturing never-before-seen archival footage\, studio outtakes\, and rare photos\, “Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It” is an exhilarating documentary about the legendary Grammy-winning musician whose signature sound shaped the work of The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Ray Charles\, Sly Stone\, Aretha Franklin\, and countless others. \nBilly Preston was perhaps the most unsung musical hero of his time. Born in Houston\, Texas\, in 1946\, he arrived in Los Angeles with his family three years later. At just 5 years old\, he was backing gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. By age 10\, he was appearing with Ray Charles on film\, and by age 15\, he was touring with Little Richard in Hamburg\, Germany\, where he met Richard’s opening act — The Beatles. \nHe would later perform and record with the biggest names in music\, including The Beatles\, The Rolling Stones\, Eric Clapton\, Barbra Streisand\, Johnny Cash\, Neil Diamond\, the Red Hot Chili Peppers\, and countless others. \nHe generated his own unforgettable No. 1 hits\, including “Outa-Space\,” “Will It Go Round in Circles\,” “Nothing from Nothing\,” and “You Are So Beautiful” — and his first hit single in 1969\, on The Beatles’ Apple Records\, “That’s The Way God Planned It\,” produced by his lifelong friend\, George Harrison. \nDespite his success\, Billy struggled to reconcile his deep relationship with the Black church with his sexuality\, setting off a lifelong quest to find love and acceptance. \n“Billy Preston: That’s the Way God Planned It” will be shown at the Mary D. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The President’s Cake” showing March 20-26 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \n“The President’s Cake” was the winner of the Camera D’Or and Audience Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival\, and the Official Iraq Entry for the Best International Film Academy Award 2025. \nWhile people across 1990’s Iraq struggle to survive\, 9-year old Lamia has been selected to prepare a cake to celebrate the President’s birthday. In a landscape of fear and scarcity\, where basic ingredients are nearly impossible to find\, Lamia sets out on a determined journey throughout the big city in search of eggs\, flour\, and sugar. Accompanied by her grandmother\, her loyal friend Saeed\, and her pet rooster Hindi\, she navigates vendors and police officers along the way. \n“The President’s Cake” embodies innocence\, imagination\, and inner strength. \n“The President’s Cake” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre March 20-26. Fisher Theatre is honored to be the home for the Met Live Opera programs for the 2025-2026 season\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival.  \nThe season continues with Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” live via simulcast on Saturday\, March 21 at 9 a.m. and the encore presentation on Wednesday\, March 25 at 1 p.m. \nPlan to come early as John Steinbrunner will lead a pre-opera talk one hour before the LIVE production on Saturday. \nAfter years of anticipation\, a truly unmissable event arrives in cinemas worldwide on March 21 as the electrifying Lise Davidsen tackles one of the ultimate roles for dramatic soprano: the Irish princess Isolde in Wagner’s transcendent meditation on love and death. Heroic tenor Michael Spyres stars opposite Davidsen as the love-drunk Tristan. \nThe momentous occasion also marks the advent of a new\, Met-debut staging by Yuval Sharon — hailed by The New York Times as “the most visionary opera director of his generation” and the first American to direct an opera at the famed Wagner festival in Bayreuth — as well as Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s first time leading “Tristan und Isolde” at the Met. \nMezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova reprises her portrayal of Brangäne\, alongside bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny\, who sings Kurwenal after celebrated Met appearances in Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer and Ring cycle. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green makes an important role debut as King Marke. \nACT I\nIsolde is being escorted by Tristan on his ship to Cornwall\, whose ruler (and Tristan’s foster father)\, Marke\, she is to marry. She tells her companion\, Brangäne\, how she once treated Tristan’s wounds after he killed her betrothed\, Morold. Now humiliated by her captivity\, she asks Brangäne to prepare poison for her and Tristan to drink. Brangäne gives them a love potion instead. As the ship sails into the harbor\, Tristan and Isolde confess their love. \nACT II\nThe lovers meet in secret while Marke is away. Tristan expresses his belief that love can only find fulfillment at night. Faced with the inevitability of their parting at daybreak\, Tristan and Isolde resolve to die. Marke discovers them and is devastated by Tristan’s disloyalty. Tristan implores Isolde to set off into the night with him. She agrees. After a struggle with Marke’s men\, Tristan is wounded and collapses. \nACT III\nTristan is lying in a coma with Kurwenal\, his aide\, watching over him. As his life slips away\, he recalls traumatic events\, including the death of his parents. Kurwenal has summoned Isolde\, and when her ship appears\, the delirious Tristan tears off his bandages and dies in her arms. Marke and Brangäne try to draw Isolde back to the realm of day and life\, but she expires in a rapture of ecstatic love. \nThe 2025-2026 Met Live Opera season in Sedona is generously sponsored by Chris Fladlien. \nThe Met Live Opera’s “Tristan und Isolde” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nDirected\, narrated and written by legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog\, “Ghost Elephants” is a lyrical tale of survival\, reconnection and the enduring power of ancient knowledge in the face of modern loss. \nIn the mist-covered highlands of Angola\, deep within its forests\, a mystery endures: the elusive ghost elephants of Lisima\, the potential living descendants of the largest land mammal ever recorded. Steve Boyes\, conservation biologist and leader of the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project\, is determined to prove their existence. \nIn order to find these elusive elephants\, Boyes and fellow National Geographic Explorer Kerllen Costa have teamed up with three KhoiSan master trackers: Xui\, Xui Dawid\, and Kobus. Refugees from a war-torn past who have faced considerable marginalization in southern Africa\, the trackers return to their ancestral lands to succeed where advanced technology could not. \n“Ghost Elephants” will be shown at the Mary D.
