SUMMARY:Just Sing
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Just Sing” showing May 1-7 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \n“Just Sing” follows a pivotal season with the SoCal VoCals\, one of the country’s top collegiate a cappella groups\, as they pursue a record-setting sixth ICCA title. With graduation looming and expectations high\, the ensemble faces the pressure of competition alongside the uncertainty of what comes next. \nDirectors Angelique Molina and Abraham Troen take an intimate approach\, capturing rehearsals\, rivalries\, and the personal histories that shape each performer’s voice. From campus practice rooms to national finals\, the film balances dynamic performances with unguarded\, behind-the-scenes moments\, offering a close look at the discipline\, camaraderie\, and transition that define the chapter of the group’s lives. \nWell known alumni of the group include songwriter Ross Golan ’01\, who penned No. 1 Billboard hits for Maroon 5\, Justin Bieber\, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban; two-time Grammy-winning Pentatonix vocalist Scott Hoying and music arranger Ben Bram ’10; Broadway performers James Snyder ’03 (If/Then)\, Donald Webber Jr. ’08 (Motown\, the Musical\, Severance\, Hamilton)\, Catherine Ricafort ’09 (Allegiance) and Bryce Ryness ’02 (Matilda\, the Musical); and actress-singer-songwriter Kelley Jakle ’11\, who played Jessica in Pitch Perfect. In 2016 the group performed at the White House for President Obama and Michelle. \n“Joyful … triumphant!” — Forbes \n“Heartfelt and genuine.” — Broadway World \n“Just Sing” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre May 1-7. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday and Monday\, May 1\, 2 and 4 at 3:30 p.m.; and Tuesday\, Wednesday and Thursday\, May 5\, 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” showing May 1-7 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres. \nFrom the Academy Award-winning filmmakers behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Navalny”. A father-to-be tries to figure out what is happening with all this AI insanity. “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” is a hand-made\, eye-opening documentary about the most powerful technology humanity has ever created … and what’s at stake if we get it wrong. \nA vital exploration of the revolutionary technology and the people behind it — from the major figures fast-tracking its development to the ones warning us about its dangers — the film\, directed by Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell\, is at once a thrilling primer\, a call to attention\, and an intimate personal story about what it means to look toward an uncertain future. \nIn “The AI Doc”\, Roher embarks on a winding odyssey to understand this unwieldy\, game-changing development\, interviewing a range of AI skeptics and champions\, pessimists and optimists\, realists and major power players — including CEOs such as OpenAI’s Sam Altman\, Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis\, and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei. Out of that deep dive emerges a tangle of momentous questions: Is humanity doomed? Are we living during the most promising time in human history or on the precipice of an age of extinction? What will become of us? \n“The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres May 1-7. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday and Monday\, May 1\, 2\, 3 and 4 at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday\, May 5 and 6 at 3:30 and 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday\, May 7 at 3:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:Eugene Onegin: Met Live Opera
DESCRIPTION:The Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres are honored to be the home for the Met Live Opera programs for the 2025-2026 season\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. \nThe season continues with Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” live via simulcast on Saturday\, May 2 at 10 a.m. (in the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre) and the encore presentation on Wednesday\, May 6 at 2 p.m. (in the Mary D. Fisher Theatre). There is no pre-opera talk for this opera. \nFollowing her acclaimed 2024 company debut in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”\, soprano Asmik Grigorian returns to the Met as Tatiana\, the lovestruck young heroine in this ardent operatic adaptation of Pushkin. Baritone Iurii Samoilov reprises his portrayal of the urbane Onegin\, who realizes his affection for her all too late. The Met’s evocative production\, directed by Tony Award–winner Deborah Warner\, “offers a beautifully detailed reading of … Tchaikovsky’s lyrical romance” (The Telegraph). \nACT I\nAutumn in the country. The widowed Madame Larina has two daughters: The romantic Tatiana spends her time reading novels; the spirited Olga is being courted by their neighbor\, the poet Lenski. When he visits with his friend\, the aristocrat Eugene Onegin\, Tatiana falls in love with Onegin and writes him a passionate letter. In response\, Onegin declares he can offer only friendship and condescendingly advises her to control her emotions\, lest another man take advantage of her innocence. \nACT II\nJanuary. Onegin has reluctantly accompanied Lenski to Tatiana’s name day celebration. Bored by the occasion\, he takes his revenge by flirting with Olga. Lenski’s jealousy is aroused to such a degree that he challenges Onegin to a duel. Both men are full of remorse\, but neither stops the duel\, and Onegin kills Lenski. \nACT III\nSt. Petersburg\, several years later. After traveling abroad\, Onegin has returned to the capital. At a ball\, Prince Gremin introduces his young wife. Onegin is astonished to recognize her as Tatiana and realizes that he now loves her. He sends her a letter begging her to run away with him. Tatiana admits that she still loves him but that she has made her decision and will not leave her husband\, leaving Onegin desperate. \nThe 2025-2026 Met Live Opera season in Sedona is generously sponsored by Chris Fladlien. \nThe Met Live Opera’s “Eugene Onegin” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre on Saturday\, May 2 at 10 a.m. (live simulcast) with an encore on Wednesday\, May 6 at 2 p.m. \nTickets are $25 general admission\, $22 for Film Festival members\, and $15 for students. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Rebel With a Clause
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the one-day-only Sedona encore of “Rebel with a Clause” on Tuesday\, May 5 — National Teacher Appreciation Day — at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nOne fall day\, Ellen Jovin set up a folding table on a Manhattan sidewalk with a homemade sign that said “Grammar Table.” Right away\, passersby began excitedly asking questions\, telling stories\, and filing complaints. \nWhat happened next is the stuff of grammar legend. \nEllen and her filmmaker husband\, Brandt Johnson\, took the table on the road\, visiting all 50 states as Brandt shot the grammar action. But this story transcends grammar. It’s the story of an epic quest in a divided time to bring us all closer together. \n“When my wife\, Ellen Jovin\, first started setting up her Grammar Table\, I would sit nearby and watch the hilarious and heartfelt interactions she had with people from every imaginable background\,” said director Brandt Johnson. “In a time of social and political division\, the Grammar Table was a place of unity and connection. I needed to share with the world what I was witnessing\, so I began filming.” \nStarting an hour before the film\, come hang out with Ellen at her nationally acclaimed Grammar Table\, where she will answer grammar questions\, resolve family grammar disputes\, and take complaints. After the screening\, please stick around for a Q&A with Brandt and Ellen\, followed by a book signing of Ellen’s national bestseller. \n“Rebel with a Clause” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Tuesday\, May 5 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members (and all teachers). For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177.
