SUMMARY:Dust to Malibu
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona theatrical premiere of “Dust to Malibu” showing June 12-18 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \n“Dust to Malibu” premiered at the recent Sedona International Film Festival and has been featured in dozens of prestigious film festivals around the country. \nAfter turning his life around\, a father (Tim Daly) tries to make amends with his estranged daughter (Alex Sgambati) whom he hasn’t seen in years. He hopes to convince her to take a road trip from Missouri to the West Coast to respect his deceased ex-wife’s wishes her ashes be placed in the Pacific Ocean. \nThe daughter’s resentment towards the man who left her mother has built such a barrier over the years that she flatly rejects the idea. Circumstances force her to have little choice so she reluctantly agrees to the trip. \nWhat begins as an uncomfortable journey filled with unspoken resentment slowly unfolds through shared experiences into tolerance\, communication\, and a fragile understanding between the two. The dark clouds between them lift until a twist changes everything\, leaving Jessie feeling angry and betrayed. \nThen she discovers the real reasons behind her father’s wish to reconnect. \n“Dust to Malibu” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre June 12-18. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Wednesday and Thursday\, June 12\, 13\, 17 and 18 at 3:30 p.m.; and Sunday\, Monday and Tuesday\, June 14\, 15 and 16 at 6:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Flag Day
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona theatrical premiere of “Flag Day” showing June 12-18 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nOne flag. Many voices. In “Flag Day”\, a small-town community joins together to celebrate patriotism over partisanship. \nSet in the small farming community of Three Oaks\, Michigan — home to the nation’s largest Flag Day parade — “Flag Day” is a verité portrait of ritual\, identity\, and belonging in an era of deep political division. Somewhere between tradition and transformation lies this village\, whose annual parade has become a pageant of American aspiration and memory. \nOver the course of Flag Day weekend\, the film immerses viewers in the lives of a diverse cross-section of townspeople: veterans\, local business owners\, marching bands\, and volunteers who\, for one weekend each June\, create an event that is at once nostalgic and reflective of the tensions of our time. Their stories reveal both the beauty and the fragility of community life in a time of polarization. \nFlag Day was filmed in an observational\, verité style\, capturing moments of humor\, conflict\, and grace as the community prepares for its defining ritual. The film offers a ground-level portrait of civic life — a portrait that holds both the good and the hard truths of being American. The project asks what binds us together today and whether those bonds can still be renewed. \n“Flag Day” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre June 12-18. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Wednesday and Thursday\, June 12\, 13\, 17 and 18 at 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday\, Monday and Tuesday\, June 14\, 15 and 16 at 3:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Duck Soup
DESCRIPTION:Northern Arizona University and the Sedona International Film Festival are partnering to present The Classics\, a monthly classic film series. \nNAU/SIFF Classics will be curated and hosted by School of Communication Professor Emeritus Paul Helford. \nThe series will continue on Thursday\, June 18 with “Duck Soup” — from 1933 — directed by Leo McCarey and starring Groucho\, Chico\, Harpo\, and Zeppo Marx. \nThe President of Freedonia\, Rufus T. Firefly\, declares war to save his country from financial collapse in this anarchic comedy masterpiece. A box-office disappointment on release\, it’s now considered one of the Marx Brothers’ two greatest films. Banned by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini\, who took it as a personal attack\, which delighted the Marx Brothers. “Duck Soup” is ranked #5 on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 Funniest Movies. \nPaul Helford will introduce the film\, provide historical and artistic context\, and lead a discussion following the movie. \nA lifelong film lover Helford has taught and written about films for over 50 years. As a television station manager and award-winning producer\, he produced and hosted a weekly classic TV film show. He’s taught high school and college film classes. At NAU he started the film program major in 2006 and has co-directed and co-hosted the NAU College of Arts and Letters film series since 2004. \n“Duck Soup” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday\, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. SUMMARY:The Dads
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Unify Sedona to present “The Dads” on Thursday\, June 18 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in observation of Pride Month. \nInspired by the Emmy Award-winning short documentary of the same name\, “The Dads” chronicles a community of fathers of trans and nonbinary children as they are forced to choose family over country as a powerful anti-trans agenda takes hold in the United States. \nFilmed over the course of a year spanning retreats in rural Maine and Minnesota\, protests\, family milestones\, a pivotal U.S. Supreme Court decision\, and the collapse of gender-affirming care for youth\, “The Dads” captures this national reckoning with remarkable intimacy through verité footage and interviews with the film’s main protagonists\, as documented by Emmy Award-winning director and producer Luchina Fisher and executive producer Dwyane Wade. \nThis is fatherhood as an act of radical love and resistance. \nThe screening of “The Dads” is sponsored by Unify Sedona. \n \n“The Dads” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday\, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. All tickets are $10 each. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Outdoor Film: Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
DESCRIPTION:It’s “Big Screen at Basecamp” as the Sedona International Film Festival partners with Sedona Beer Company for its “Movies on the Move” cinema under the stars outdoor film experience at Basecamp in West Sedona — every Thursday in the summer season! \nJoin us on Thursday\, June 18 as we present “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life” at Basecamp/Sedona Beer Company at dusk. \n“Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life” (1983) is an irreverent\, surreal\, and satirical sketch comedy film. Instead of following a single narrative\, the six Python members use music\, dark humor\, and outrageous vignettes to explore the seven stages of human existence\, taking savage jabs at religion\, medicine\, and corporate culture along the way. The seven parts of life cover birth\, growing up\, war\, middle age\, organ transplants\, old age and death. Ultimately\, after all the absurdity\, the characters are given an envelope containing the “Meaning of Life” at the very end. \nBasecamp will offer a selection of craft beers\, food and beverages (and a special menu item themed to each film)\, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Sedona International Film Festival. \n \n“Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life” will be shown outdoors at Basecamp Sedona Beer Company (70 Dry Creek Road) on Thursday\, June 18 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs. Parking is free and available at Basecamp and the Sedona Public Library. \nTickets are only $10 each\, and kids 12 and under are free of charge. \nFor advance tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177.
