DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Monument” showing July 10-16 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nSet in the final year of Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon\, “Monument” tells the true story of acclaimed Israeli architects Amnon Rechter (Joe Mazzello) and his father\, Yacov Rechter (Jon Voight)\, as their most dangerous commission forces them to confront the limits of loyalty\, dissent\, and art. \nTasked with designing a monument honoring fallen soldiers of the Christian South Lebanon Army\, Yakov and Amnon make repeated journeys down the notorious “Death Road” into the security zone\, a militarized buffer strip plagued by ambushes and roadside bombs. \nAmnon rejects the Israeli Ministry of Defense’s nationalist brief\, urging his father to build a memorial that rises above religious and political divisions: a place of rest and remembrance for both Christians and Muslims. As he works alongside Lebanese contractors struggling to survive under occupation\, witnesses the war up close\, and risks his own life\, his artistic quest turns into the ultimate test of character. \nAs father and son clash over loyalty\, complicity\, and art\, their creative journey mirrors that of a nation divided\, and the monument becomes a haunting symbol of a peace that never lasts. \n“Monument” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre July 10-16. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nA ginkgo tree bears witness to the lives of three generations of people\, as they are quietly transformed by the mysterious power of nature. \nAt the heart of a German university grows a majestic ginkgo tree\, its lifespan measured in centuries. As the years pass\, the distinguished plant bears witness to the private lives of those who seek shade under its boundless branches\, forming a nexus that connects three generations of students and teachers across time and space.  \nIn 2020\, a visiting neuroscientist conducts a series of experiments into the possibilities of botanical consciousness. In 1972\, a young student is profoundly changed by studying the behavior of a simple geranium. And in 1908\, the university’s first female student’s photographic inquiries reveal sacred patterns of the universe hidden within the humblest of plants. Over time\, each is transformed by the quiet\, enduring\, and mysterious power of nature. \nFrom Ildikó Enyedi\, the director of Academy Award-nominated “On Body and Soul”\, comes “Silent Friend”\, an epic\, awe-inspiring exploration of the natural world. SUMMARY:Outdoor Film: Field of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:It’s “Big Screen at Basecamp” as the Sedona International Film Festival partners with Sedona Beer Company for its “Movies on the Move” cinema under the stars outdoor film experience at Basecamp in West Sedona — every Thursday in the summer season! \nJoin us on Thursday\, July 16 as we present “Field of Dreams” at Basecamp/Sedona Beer Company at dusk. \n“Field of Dreams” is a 1989 fantasy sports drama about an Iowa farmer who hears a mysterious voice urging him to build a baseball diamond in his cornfield. The field attracts the ghosts of legendary baseball players\, leading the farmer on a magical journey of redemption\, reconciliation\, and second chances. \nThe film follows Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner)\, an ordinary farmer who hears a whisper telling him\, “If you build it\, he will come.” Believing the cryptic message\, Ray plows under a portion of his valuable corn crop to build a regulation baseball field. Soon after\, the ghost of legendary baseball star “Shoeless” Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) — along with other players from the infamous 1919 Chicago Black Sox — emerge from the surrounding cornstalks to play the game they love. \nBasecamp will offer a selection of craft beers\, food and beverages (and a special menu item themed to each film)\, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Sedona International Film Festival. \n \n“Field of Dreams” will be shown outdoors at Basecamp Sedona Beer Company (70 Dry Creek Road) on Thursday\, July 16 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.
