SUMMARY:Wild Inside
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Wild Inside” showing Aug. 4-9 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \n“Wild Inside” premieres nationally (and in Sedona!) on International Owl Awareness Day\, August 4. \nWhat would happen if a captive-born owl with no survival skills tried to make it on his own in New York City? In “Wild Inside”\, we discover the answer is more incredible\, and more consequential\, than we could have ever imagined.  \nIn February 2023\, a Eurasian Eagle-Owl named Flaco escapes from the Central Park Zoo and sets off on a magical odyssey through the island of Manhattan. Flaco answers the call of the wild – and discovers he was wild inside all along.  \n“Wild Inside” is an underdog story of resilience and self-determination as Flaco the Owl beats the odds and accomplishes the impossible. Flaco busts out of his cage barely able to fly\, but he adapts\, he explores and eventually — it seems — he goes far beyond mere survival\, becoming an internationally known icon of freedom\, hooting from the highest water towers. He claims all of New York City as his wild kingdom.  \nThe remarkable story of Flaco raises some questions: is it right to keep a bird in a cage? Is there any real distinction between “zoo animals” and “wild animals”? How can we be better to our nonhuman neighbors?  \nThis one-of-a-kind owl’s epic song is sung in “Wild Inside” by a chorus of besotted New Yorkers – young and old\, bird-nerds and civilians\, many of them immigrants themselves – all of them reaching for a glimpse of the wild\, a glimmer of magic\, or even just someone to believe in. Everywhere Flaco goes\, he leaves that place and its people forever enchanted. \n“Wild Inside” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 4-9. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nPlease join us for a special screening event of “The Next Chapter: Psychedelics\, Healing\, and the Second Half of Life”\, an intimate and deeply personal documentary by filmmaker and producer Scott Paul Wright that explores the growing role of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the second half of life. \nFollowing adults over the age of 55 as they navigate depression\, anxiety\, grief\, and long-unresolved emotional pain\, “The Next Chapter” offers a compassionate look at what it means to seek healing\, meaning\, and renewal later in life. More than a film about treatment\, it is a story about courage\, vulnerability\, and the possibility of beginning again. \nScott’s own personal journey with psilocybin at age 68 inspired the creation of the film\, and he also appears as part of the story he set out to tell. \n“This is not a film about a drug. It is a film about people who refused to give up on themselves\, people who carried pain for years and finally found a way through it.” — Scott Paul Wright\, director. \n \nThere will be a special opening night discussion and audience Q&A on Friday\, Aug. 7 featuring filmmaker Scott Paul Wright (via Zoom) and moderated by Dr. Heidi J. Dalzell\, PsyD\, founder of Sedona Integrative Therapy. Dr. Dalzell is a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma\, grief\, eating disorders\, psychospiritual growth\, and the unique challenges and opportunities of midlife and later-life development. \nThis interactive discussion will invite audience members to ask questions about the making of the film\, Scott’s personal experience that inspired the project\, and the emerging role of psychedelic medicines as an adjunct to psychotherapy. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \n   \nJoin us for a special opening day Q&A discussion with special guests on Friday\, Aug. 7 at 4:00 p.m. Matt Barnes from the Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative and Courtney Vail from the Rocky Mountain Wolf Project and Emily Renn from the Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project will be in Sedona to introduce the film and host a post-film Q&A discussion. \nAcademy Award-winner Jeff Bridges narrates this stunning journey\, following wolves and other animals as co-travelers through American history — from the shores of England to the birth of the New Republic\, and ultimately the colonization of the vast\, contested landscapes of the modern American West. \nA place where the ensemble doesn’t merely walk through history; they trot\, lope\, stampede\, and migrate across it — reminding us that the wild and the domesticated alike have always reflected a deeper story of who we are as a nation\, and who we might yet become. \n“With surprising and little-known histories that stretch back to England before unfolding across the landscapes of the American West\, I never intended to make a film only about wolves\, although they figure prominently throughout\,” said director Susan Kucera. \n“It is through wolves\, bison\, horses\, sheep\, cattle\, and other animals that the film explores the strange contradictions\, myths\, unexpected connections\, competing ideas of freedom\, and the invention of the American frontier. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona. \n  \nOPENING DAY SPEAKER BIOS: \n \nMatt Barnes\, a research associate with the Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative\, is a range scientist\, wildlife conservationist\, and former ranch manager\, who works on Reintegrating Wildness in working landscapes. He works with land managers to improve rangeland stewardship and has worked with ranchers to prevent conflicts with large carnivores such as grizzly bears and wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains of Montana and Wyoming. He is a board member of the Rocky Mountain Wolf Project. \n \nCourtney Vail is a wildlife biologist and social scientist who has worked within the conservation and animal welfare field for over 30 years. With a deep background in environmental policy and psychology\, she has provided leadership for the design and implementation of diverse domestic and international programs\, campaigns\, and initiatives for marine and terrestrial wildlife across the private\, non-profit\, and government sectors\, seeking to align science and ethics. She is board chair of the Rocky Mountain Wolf Project. \n \nEmily Renn is a Ph.D. student in the School of Earth and Sustainability at Northern Arizona University\, seeking innovative\, inclusive\, and interdisciplinary approaches to human-Mexican gray wolf coexistence to ensure that wolves can thrive in self-sustaining and ecologically effective populations across the U.S. Southwest. She previously served as executive director of the Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project.

Join Dead Heads in your neighborhood — and around the world — for the 2026 Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies. This can’t-miss event features the complete June 17\, 1991 concert from Giants Stadium.  \nThe performance launches with a shocking “Eyes Of The World\,” finding the band in peak form from the very first notes. The setlist continues\, seamlessly blending beloved classics like “Truckin’” and “Uncle John’s Band” with rarities such as “Saint Of Circumstance\,” “Might As Well\,” “New Speedway Boogie\,” and “China Doll.” The major highlight of the night is the continuous teases of “Dark Star” edging its way in and out through the evening at six different points before finally exploding into the full song. Claude’s explosive\, in-your-face\, rapid-fire\, madman stage style is truly an exhilarating assault on the senses; and it has evoked comparisons to golden era physical comedians such as Steve Martin\, Robin Williams and Jim Carrey.
