DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona encore of “The Piano” showing Aug. 14-19 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nWriter/director Jane Campion’s brilliant masterpiece “The Piano” has undergone a stunning 4K restoration and being re-released in theatres for a big screen theatrical encore. The film — starring Holly Hunter\, Harvey Keitel\, Sam Neill\, and Anna Paquin — was nominated for eight Academy Awards\, including Best Picture. It won three Oscars for Best Screenplay (Campion)\, Best Actress (Hunter) and Best Supporting Actress (Paquin). \nAda — mute since birth — her nine-year-old daughter and her piano arrive to an arranged marriage in the remote bush of nineteenth century New Zealand. Of all her belongings her husband refuses to transport the piano and it is left behind on the beach.  \nUnable to bear its certain destruction\, Ada strikes a bargain with an illiterate tattooed neighbor. She may earn her piano back if she allows him to do certain things while she plays — one black key for every lesson. SUMMARY:Battle of Oslo
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Battle of Oslo” showing Aug. 15-20 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \n“Battle of Oslo” tells the true story of Colonel Eriksen\, who\, on April 9\, 1940\, sank a German warship approaching Oslo. His decision delayed the Nazi invasion and saved the king and government — yet he was later treated unfairly by a military commission. \nWhile the outcome of the battle is well-known in Norway\, the film delves into the lesser-known post-war trials of Eriksen. Confronted by a military commission\, he must defend his actions against criticism for his early surrender of the fortress. Eriksen must fight a battle for fame and honor.  \nThe film combines two story lines and thus becomes both an exciting war film and a thriller intertwined. \n“Battle of Oslo” will be shown at the Mary D. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the summer encore of the Met Opera’s “Aida” (from the 2024-25 season) on Saturday\, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nIn this powerful 2025 Met performance\, soprano Angel Blue sings the title role of Verdi’s Egyptian drama\, with tenor Piotr Beczała as the warrior Radamès and mezzo-soprano Judit Kutasi as Amneris in Michael Mayer’s spectacular staging. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts. \nACT I\nAncient Egypt. The warrior Radamès and Aida\, the Ethiopian slave of Princess Amneris\, are in love. Amneris\, daughter of the King\, also loves Radamès. When he is chosen to lead the Egyptian army against the advancing Ethiopians\, Aida is torn between love for Radamès and loyalty to her homeland\, where her father is king. \nACT II\nEthiopia has been defeated. Amneris\, realizing that Aida is her rival\, is determined to win Radamès. At the victory celebration\, Radamès asks the King for mercy for the Ethiopian prisoners\, among whom is Amonasro\, Aida’s father. The King grants the request and promises Radamès his daughter’s hand in marriage. \nACT III\nAida and Radamès meet secretly. Urged by her father\, Aida makes Radamès tell her the secret battle plan of his army. Amonasro\, hiding nearby\, overhears their conversation. When Radamès realizes who Aida’s father is\, he is desperate about what he has done. The high priest Ramfis has him arrested as a traitor. Aida and Amonasro escape. \nACT IV\nRadamès\, believing Aida dead\, has been sentenced to be buried alive\, but Aida has hidden in the vault to share his fate. They express their love for the last time.
