DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez” showing Sept. 3-10 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nAgainst political resistance and industry skepticism\, Luis Valdez pushes Chicano storytelling from the fields to the film screen with “Zoot Suit” and “La Bamba”\, crafting iconic works that challenge\, celebrate\, and expand America’s story. \n \nAn auteur emerges from America’s underclass: from migrant farmworker to revolutionary artist\, Luis Valdez changed American culture. In the 1960s\, his El Teatro Campesino performed on flatbed trucks and helped mobilize workers to win the first farmworker union contract. His “Zoot Suiet” was the first Chicano play on Broadway. \nDespite critical rejection that killed the show\, he persevered\, creating “La Bamba” — a breakout blockbuster that authentically depicted Mexican American life to the world. Now in its 60th year\, El Teatro continues to be a beacon for Latino/a creators. This is the story of an artist who gave voice to the overlooked and opened pathways for generations. \nThe film features Lou Diamond Phillips\, Cheech Marin\, labor activist Dolores Huerta\, Linda Ronstadt\, and Edward James Olmos (who narrates the film\, reprising the role of “Zoot Suit’s” El Pachuco). \n“Inventive and engaging.” — The Playlist \n“Enlightening and entertaining.” — The Hollywood Reporter \n“American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez” will be shown at the Mary D. Discover how vultures protect human health\, prevent the spread of disease\, recycle nutrients back into ecosystems and play an irreplaceable role in keeping our environment healthy. \n \nYou will meet Druantia\, IRFC’s Turkey Vulture ambassador\, whose incredible story and engaging personality will challenge everything you thought you knew (and felt) about vultures. DESCRIPTION:Singer/songwriter Victoria Cardona makes her Sedona debut in a special concert at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Saturday\, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m.\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. \nBased out of South Florida\, Victoria Cardona is a Cuban American singer/songwriter\, guitarist\, and multi-instrumentalist. Her live looping performances are a sonic and visual experience that take the audience on a ride through the mind of a spontaneous improvisationalist. \nWith the aid of the Boss RC-600 loop pedal\, Victoria stacks intricate layers of guitar\, bass\, percussion\, and vocal harmonies to create a backdrop for smokey\, alto vocals and ripping lead guitar. \n \nVictoria’s Cuban roots and familiarity with multicultural music genres provide the inspiration for the strong rhythmic undertone she delivers in conjunction with a harmonic counterpart that fuses elements of jazz\, blues\, soul\, Afro-Cuban\, Afro-Caribbean\, salsa\, and rock ’n’ roll. \nGrowing up in a traditional Cuban household\, she was influenced by legends like Celia Cruz and Gloria Estefan. After studying jazz guitar in Florida and Minnesota\, she developed her live looping\, one-woman-band project. Victoria’s international tours took her across Europe\, while her active Southeast U.S. performances sharpened her sound. \nVictoria released her debut studio album\, Que Pasó\, on June 27\, 2025. Produced by Tim Goodman\, the album sees Victoria with a full band for a collection of eight original and three creative cover songs.
