DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez” showing Sept. 3-10 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \nAgainst political resistance and industry skepticism\, Luis Valdez pushes Chicano storytelling from the fields to the film screen with “Zoot Suit” and “La Bamba”\, crafting iconic works that challenge\, celebrate\, and expand America’s story. \n \nAn auteur emerges from America’s underclass: from migrant farmworker to revolutionary artist\, Luis Valdez changed American culture. In the 1960s\, his El Teatro Campesino performed on flatbed trucks and helped mobilize workers to win the first farmworker union contract. His “Zoot Suiet” was the first Chicano play on Broadway. \nDespite critical rejection that killed the show\, he persevered\, creating “La Bamba” — a breakout blockbuster that authentically depicted Mexican American life to the world. Now in its 60th year\, El Teatro continues to be a beacon for Latino/a creators. This is the story of an artist who gave voice to the overlooked and opened pathways for generations. \nThe film features Lou Diamond Phillips\, Cheech Marin\, labor activist Dolores Huerta\, Linda Ronstadt\, and Edward James Olmos (who narrates the film\, reprising the role of “Zoot Suit’s” El Pachuco). \n“Inventive and engaging.” — The Playlist \n“Enlightening and entertaining.” — The Hollywood Reporter \n“American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez” will be shown at the Mary D. DESCRIPTION:It’s “Big Screen at Basecamp” as the Sedona International Film Festival partners with Sedona Beer Company for its “Movies on the Move” cinema under the stars outdoor film experience at Basecamp in West Sedona — every Thursday in the summer season! \nJoin us on Thursday\, Sept. 10 as we present “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at Basecamp/Sedona Beer Company at dusk. \n“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is a 1988 comedy about two competing con artists starring Michael Caine\, Steve Martin\, and Glenne Headly. Con artist Lawrence Jamieson (Caine) is a longtime resident of a luxurious coastal resort\, where he enjoys the fruits of his deceptions — that is\, until a competitor\, Freddy Benson (Martin)\, shows up. When the new guy’s lowbrow tactics impinge on his own work\, Jamieson resolves to get rid of him. Confident of his own duplicitous talents\, Jamieson challenges Benson to a winner-takes-all competition: whoever swindles an American heiress (Headly) first can stay\, while the other must leave town. \nBasecamp will offer a selection of craft beers\, food and beverages (and a special menu item themed to each film)\, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Sedona International Film Festival. \n \n“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” will be shown outdoors at Basecamp Sedona Beer Company (70 Dry Creek Road) on Thursday\, Sept. 10 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.
