DESCRIPTION:In 1982\, brothers Troy and Gil Gillenwater decided to walk across the state of Arizona. Without GPS\, mobile phones\, or continuous trails\, they cobbled together an 810-mile adventure that took over two months and two mules to complete. Little did they know\, their trek would be an inspiration for the Arizona National Scenic Trail\, now hiked by thousands each year. \nThat remarkable origin story comes to life in “Trailblazers” — a 40-minute documentary produced by the Emmy Award-winning team at Quantum Leap Productions. \nThe film premieres on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. The evening benefits the Arizona Trail Association Endowment\, supporting the long-term protection\, stewardship\, and future of the Arizona Trail. \nFeaturing rare archival footage and compelling interviews with Bruce Babbitt\, former Arizona Governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior\, and Kevin Fedarko\, acclaimed author of “The Emerald Mile” and “A Walk in the Park”\, “Trailblazers” traces the Gillenwater trek and the enduring spirit of exploration that helped shape one of Arizona’s greatest public-lands legacies. \nPart road movie\, part time machine\, “Trailblazers” is about how one audacious idea can spark a lasting legacy for generations to follow. \nThe evening includes conversation with film subjects Troy Gillenwater and Gil Gillenwater; Matt Nelson\, Executive Director of the Arizona Trail Association\, and Robert Stieve\, Editor in Chief of Arizona Highways — moderated by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Kristin Atwell. \n“Trailblazers” will be shown at the Mary D. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff! \nThis series continues on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Peter Asher: Everywhere Man” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company. \n“Peter Asher: Everywhere Man” is a feature-length documentary inspired by musician\, producer\, and manager Peter Asher’s celebrated cabaret show A Musical Memoir of the ’60s and Beyond. Like his stage performance\, the film traces an extraordinary life lived at the center of modern music history. \nFrom his early years as a child actor in 1950s London to the Swinging Sixties\, Asher emerges as a Zelig-like figure in the culture of the era: one half of the pop duo “Peter and Gordon\,” recipients of four chart-topping hits penned by Paul McCartney; the first head of A&R at Apple Records; and co-owner of the Indica Gallery\, the epicenter of London’s countercultural art scene. \nAsher helped define a generation of singer-songwriters as producer and manager for James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt\, and others\, cementing his reputation as one of music’s most influential behind-the-scenes forces of the 1970s and ‘80s. In the present day\, he remains a vital creative force\, still performing\, producing\, and most recently collaborating with Barbra Streisand on her acclaimed The Secret of Life duets album. \nFeaturing intimate interviews with James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt\, Carole King\, Kate Taylor\, Lyle Lovett\, Natalie Merchant\, Marianne Faithfull\, Paul Jones\, Danny Kortchmar\, Waddy Wachtell\, Lee Sklar\, John Boylan\, Paul Shaffer\, and Paul McCartney (in voiceover) as well as cultural icons Steve Martin\, Eric Idle\, Twiggy\, and Pattie Boyd. Everywhere Man paints a vibrant portrait of a man whose life intersects with some of the greatest artists and moments of the last six decades.
