SUMMARY:Atonement
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Atonement” showing Oct. 9-15 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nDisplaced from their home by U.S. military action during the early days of the Iraq War\, the Khachaturian family finds refuge with relatives\, gathering their three generations together under one roof. But when another bombing erupts nearby\, they decide to return to their home across the city. \nAs they navigate the war-torn streets of Baghdad\, the family is trapped in a firefight between U.S. Marines and insurgents\, and one Marine’s split-second decision devastates the family. Years later\, haunted by his time in Iraq and aided by a New Yorker journalist\, the Marine seeks to reconcile with the Khachaturian matriarch and her surviving family members. \nAnchored by moving\, unforgettable performances from Boyd Holbrook\, Hiam Abbass\, and Kenneth Branagh\, “Atonement” is a powerfully human story about the immeasurable costs of war\, exploring universal questions about guilt\, redemption\, and the nature of forgiveness. \n“Bracingly real. You can feel the movie burning away the fog of war.” — Variety \n“Hiam Abbass gives a master class in less-is-more restraint. This is acting of the highest caliber. Her mesmerizing performance here ranks with her very best.” — The Hollywood Reporter \n“A powerful human drama about the often-elusive nature of forgiveness.” — Next Best Picture \n“Atonement” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres Oct. 9-15. SUMMARY:The Last Dive
DESCRIPTION:Share an inspirational week of healing and friendship at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre for a week-long run of “The Last Dive” — an award-winning documentary from Emmy Award-winning director Cody Sheehy and winner of Best Cinematography at the Tribeca Film Festival\, that has drawn sold-out crowds nationwide. \nThe Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The Last Dive” showing Oct. 9-15. The film premiered to rave reviews at the recent Sedona International Film Festival. \nProducer Christopher Gebhardt will be in Sedona for the Oct. 12 and 13 screenings to host the film and post screening Q&A. \nTerry Kennedy is a legendary figure in Baja Mexico\, an American veteran who has spent decades living on (and in) the water. Once a man burdened by a troubled past\, Terry’s life was transformed by an unlikely friendship with Willy\, a 22-foot oceanic manta ray. For nearly two decades\, Willy would slap his wings against the hull of Terry’s sailboat to signal their next dive\, and together they explored the ocean’s depths. An extraordinary bond that turned Terry into an unexpected conservationist. \nNow in his 80’s\, Terry embarks on one final journey to a remote island in hopes of reuniting with his old friend. But he’s also searching for something deeper: peace\, closure\, and a chance to say goodbye. \nDirected by award-winning filmmaker Cody Sheehy and produced by acclaimed Mark Monroe\, “The Last Dive” is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant documentary that invites viewers to reflect on our connection to the natural world and the wild\, mysterious creatures that help us find our place in it. \n“The Last Dive” is a cinematic experience not to be missed: playing for one week only! \n“The Last Dive” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatres Oct. 9-15. Showtimes will be Friday\, Sunday and Tuesday\, Oct. 9\, 11 and 13 at 7:00 p.m.; Monday\, Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m.; and Thursday\, Oct. 15 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:Trailblazers
DESCRIPTION:In 1982\, brothers Troy and Gil Gillenwater decided to walk across the state of Arizona. Without GPS\, mobile phones\, or continuous trails\, they cobbled together an 810-mile adventure that took over two months and two mules to complete. Little did they know\, their trek would be an inspiration for the Arizona National Scenic Trail\, now hiked by thousands each year. \nThat remarkable origin story comes to life in “Trailblazers” — a 40-minute documentary produced by the Emmy Award-winning team at Quantum Leap Productions. \nThe film premieres on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. The evening benefits the Arizona Trail Association Endowment\, supporting the long-term protection\, stewardship\, and future of the Arizona Trail. \nFeaturing rare archival footage and compelling interviews with Bruce Babbitt\, former Arizona Governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior\, and Kevin Fedarko\, acclaimed author of “The Emerald Mile” and “A Walk in the Park”\, “Trailblazers” traces the Gillenwater trek and the enduring spirit of exploration that helped shape one of Arizona’s greatest public-lands legacies. \nPart road movie\, part time machine\, “Trailblazers” is about how one audacious idea can spark a lasting legacy for generations to follow. \nBoth screenings will include conversation with film subjects Troy Gillenwater and Gil Gillenwater — moderated by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Kristin Atwell. \n“Trailblazers” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Flagstaff Premiere: Peter Asher: Everywhere Man
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff! \nThis series continues on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 with the Flagstaff premiere of “Peter Asher: Everywhere Man” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company. \n“Peter Asher: Everywhere Man” is a feature-length documentary inspired by musician\, producer\, and manager Peter Asher’s celebrated cabaret show A Musical Memoir of the ’60s and Beyond. Like his stage performance\, the film traces an extraordinary life lived at the center of modern music history. \nFrom his early years as a child actor in 1950s London to the Swinging Sixties\, Asher emerges as a Zelig-like figure in the culture of the era: one half of the pop duo “Peter and Gordon\,” recipients of four chart-topping hits penned by Paul McCartney; the first head of A&R at Apple Records; and co-owner of the Indica Gallery\, the epicenter of London’s countercultural art scene. \nAsher helped define a generation of singer-songwriters as producer and manager for James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt\, and others\, cementing his reputation as one of music’s most influential behind-the-scenes forces of the 1970s and ‘80s. In the present day\, he remains a vital creative force\, still performing\, producing\, and most recently collaborating with Barbra Streisand on her acclaimed The Secret of Life duets album. \nFeaturing intimate interviews with James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt\, Carole King\, Kate Taylor\, Lyle Lovett\, Natalie Merchant\, Marianne Faithfull\, Paul Jones\, Danny Kortchmar\, Waddy Wachtell\, Lee Sklar\, John Boylan\, Paul Shaffer\, and Paul McCartney (in voiceover) as well as cultural icons Steve Martin\, Eric Idle\, Twiggy\, and Pattie Boyd. Everywhere Man paints a vibrant portrait of a man whose life intersects with some of the greatest artists and moments of the last six decades. The soundtrack — woven from the timeless hits of those featured — creates a score as unforgettable as the story itself. \n“Peter Asher: Everywhere Man” will show at Theatrikos Theatre Company on Wednesday\, Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $9 for Film Festival members. \nFor tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Tickets can also be ordered in advance online at the BUY TICKETS link to the right. \n  \n \nTheatrikos Theatre Company is located at 11 W. Cherry Ave. in Downtown Flagstaff. \n  \n \nThis partnership and collaboration is made possible by a generous grant from Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff. \n
