SUMMARY:You Had to Be There
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “You Had to Be There” showing Oct. 16-21 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \n“You Had to Be There” premiered to rave reviews at the recent Sedona International Film Festival. It is now making its national theatrical debut. \nOn June 1\, 1972\, a humble production of a hit musical retelling of the Book of Matthew officially opened its run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in downtown Toronto. As for what happened next\, that may be most accurately expressed by the subtitle for Nick Davis’ celebratory documentary\, “You Had to Be There: How the Toronto ‘Godspell’ Ignited the Comedy Revolution\, Spread Love & Overalls\, and Created a Community That Changed the World (In a Canadian Kind of Way)”. \nAnd that’s no empty boast about a bunch of singing hippies. Based solely on the bright futures of so many of the talents who formed the cast during the 14-month run — Martin Short\, Eugene Levy\, Gilda Radner\, Victor Garber\, Andrea Martin\, Dave Thomas\, and Jayne Eastwood plus musical director Paul Shaffer — “Godspell’s” impact and influence cannot be overstated. The improvisational element of the musical itself helped foster a unique sensibility that comedy fans would soon recognize in “Saturday Night Live”\, “SCTV”\, and countless other TV shows and movies. \nAs Davis’ film reveals\, the Toronto “Godspell” was a hugely formative experience in the lives of the participants\, too. With its deft mix of engaging interviews with surviving participants\, animated recreations\, and other means of compensating for the scarcity of original archival materials (if only audience members had smartphones in 1972)\, “You Had to Be There” brings this special time back into the present with an irrepressible sense of joy. \nThe all-star cast of “You Had to Be There” includes Martin Short\, Eugene Levy\, Gilda Radner\, Paul Shaffer\, Stephen Schwartz\, Lin-Manuel Miranda\, Mike Myers\, Heidi Gardner\, Gary Gulman\, James Austin Johnson\, Janeane Garofalo\, Andrea Martin\, Victor Garber\, Dave Thomas\, Jayne Eastwood\, Valda Aviks\, Avril Chown\, Don Scardino and Rudy Webb. \n“You Had to Be There” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Oct. 16-21. Showtimes will be Friday and Saturday\, Oct. 16 and 17 at 3:00 p.m.; Sunday\, Oct. 18 at 4:00 p.m.; Monday\, Oct. 19 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.; and Tuesday and Wednesday\, Oct. 20 and 21 at 7:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:The History of Concrete
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The History of Concrete” showing Oct. 16-22 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nAfter attending a workshop on how to write a Hallmark movie\, filmmaker John Wilson tries to use the same formula to sell a documentary about concrete. \nFollowing the finale of his TV series\, filmmaker John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure. Concrete\, the world’s most widely used building material\, appears as an ever-present life force\, and John sets out to make the definitive documentary on the matter. \nTo tell this seemingly drab story\, he decides to use the industry-approved Hallmark formula to increase his movie’s appeal. But his foundation soon begins to crumble — literally and figuratively — as he struggles to balance artistic freedom with the realities of the modern film industry. \n“John Wilson is back with a movie\, thank God.” — New York Magazine \n“An absurd triumph. Laugh-out-loud funny\, compelling and surprising.” — The Guardian \n“The History of Concrete” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres Oct. 16-22. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday and Thursday\, Oct. 16\, 17\, 18 and 22 at 3:30 p.m.; and Monday\, Tuesday and Wednesday\, Oct. 19\, 20 and 21 at 6:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Bernstein's Wall
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Bernstein’s Wall” showing Oct. 16-22 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres. \nDouglas Tirola’s thrilling documentary “Bernstein’s Wall” traces Leonard Bernstein’s lifelong struggle to create social change and bring people together through his work. Like a symphony with multiple movements\, the film presents the sweeping grandeur of Bernstein’s life alongside his thoughts about America\, politics\, race\, family\, media\, sex\, and religion. \n \nThe son of a Russian Jewish immigrant\, Bernstein rose to become Conductor of the New York Philharmonic and a towering figure in classical music\, Broadway\, television\, and culture. Yet behind the icon was a vulnerable and conflicted artist wrestling to balance his ambitions\, sexuality\, religion\, and the family he deeply loved. He used his influence to advocate for progressive political change\, often at considerable personal risk. \nGuided by Bernstein’s voice\, “Bernstein’s Wall” draws on archival footage\, photographs\, personal letters\, family audio\, and highlights from his career to create a portrait of one of the 20th century’s most prominent icons. \n“Bernstein’s Wall” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres Oct. 16-22. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday and Sunday\, Oct. 16\, 17 and 18 at 6:30 p.m.; Monday and Wednesday\, Oct. 19 and 21 at 3:30 p.m.; Tuesday\, Oct. 20 at 4:00 p.m.; and Thursday\, Oct. 22 at 3:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:BOSAYA: Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:People come to a BOSAYA concert for a voice that is rarely heard live: a four-octave range\, unusually high\, clear\, and felt in the body. This is not just a concert. It is a living instrument of light — a voice that rises into high frequencies\, then returns as warmth that opens the chest and quiets the mind. In Sedona\, that voice will be in the room with you. \nThe Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present BOSAYA: Live in Concert on Friday\, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nBOSAYA has been singing since the age of six\, trained in choral conducting and pop-jazz vocals\, and has been performing for over 20 years. Her rare four-octave voice creates a deep emotional experience: it opens the heart and brings people back to light. \n \nBOSAYA pays special attention to the frequency of the human voice and believes that conscious sounding is an essential part of life for everyone. Her music has reached No. 11 on the U.S. iTunes charts\, and her song “AYA” has surpassed one million views on YouTube. In 2026\, BOSAYA won the InterContinental Music Awards. \n“Independent pop artist BOSAYA is reshaping the very act of listening\, turning each song into a portal where sound becomes a full-body\, full-spirit encounter.” — Broadway World \nOn stage with her will be her husband — multi-instrumentalist and music producer Vadim Zariuta. The evening will also be opened by a young guest from Italy\, Anna Mozzon. \n \nThe program will be alive and dynamic — moving from deep\, almost meditative moments with voice\, crystal singing bowls\, and hang drum to more rhythmic and danceable parts. There will also be special moments where the audience is invited to join with their own voice and\, through sounding together\, connect more deeply with themselves. \nThe space becomes warm\, full\, and alive — a place where you can simply listen\, move\, or gently sound together. \nCome feel. Come open. Come shine. \nBOSAYA: Live in Concert takes the stage at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Friday\, Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include a meet-and-greet with BOSAYA in the lobby after the show. \nClick on the BUY TICKETS link to the right to order tickets online\, or call 928-282-1177 to order by phone. The Sedona International Film Festival Office and the Mary D. Fisher Theatre are located at 2030 W. SR 89A in West Sedona.
