DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The History of Concrete” showing Oct. 16-22 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nAfter attending a workshop on how to write a Hallmark movie\, filmmaker John Wilson tries to use the same formula to sell a documentary about concrete. \nFollowing the finale of his TV series\, filmmaker John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure. Concrete\, the world’s most widely used building material\, appears as an ever-present life force\, and John sets out to make the definitive documentary on the matter.  \nTo tell this seemingly drab story\, he decides to use the industry-approved Hallmark formula to increase his movie’s appeal. But his foundation soon begins to crumble — literally and figuratively — as he struggles to balance artistic freedom with the realities of the modern film industry. \n“John Wilson is back with a movie\, thank God.” — New York Magazine \n“An absurd triumph. Fisher Theatres. \nDouglas Tirola’s thrilling documentary “Bernstein’s Wall” traces Leonard Bernstein’s lifelong struggle to create social change and bring people together through his work. Like a symphony with multiple movements\, the film presents the sweeping grandeur of Bernstein’s life alongside his thoughts about America\, politics\, race\, family\, media\, sex\, and religion. \n \nThe son of a Russian Jewish immigrant\, Bernstein rose to become Conductor of the New York Philharmonic and a towering figure in classical music\, Broadway\, television\, and culture. Yet behind the icon was a vulnerable and conflicted artist wrestling to balance his ambitions\, sexuality\, religion\, and the family he deeply loved. He used his influence to advocate for progressive political change\, often at considerable personal risk. \nGuided by Bernstein’s voice\, “Bernstein’s Wall” draws on archival footage\, photographs\, personal letters\, family audio\, and highlights from his career to create a portrait of one of the 20th century’s most prominent icons. \n“Bernstein’s Wall” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Two upper-class wives\, their husbands away for the day\, share a few toasts to their pre-marital dalliances — with the same man\, who just may be en route from France to visit.
