DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The Work in Progress” showing Nov. 6-12 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nIf you were invited to sit at a table with someone you’ve never met before and answer handwritten questions from a wooden box about the state of America\, would you run the other way? “The Work in Progress” invites strangers from across generations and geographies to engage in candid discussions about America’s ever-evolving democracy\, identity\, and definitions of community — and where the heck we go from here.  \nGuided by questions posed by Executive Producer Robert Reich\, participants sit down in a series of conversations with one another to explore the country they’re living in now and the one they still believe is possible. \nThese encounters are intercut with portraits of Americans at work — in woodshops\, laboratories\, fields\, board rooms\, recording studios\, theaters\, and beyond. The message is simple but profound: America can work because\, in many ways\, it’s already working. And a central part of the work ahead is to reclaim the practices of dialogue\, debate\, compromise\, and perhaps most importantly\, listening\, so that we might find our footing again. \nWhat emerges in “The Work in Progress” is an unusual and provocative glimpse of America in its 250th year\, and an invitation to all Americans to pull up a chair\, invite a stranger\, and lend an ear. \n“The Work in Progress” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre Nov. 6-12. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Eddie Cochran: Don’t Forget Me” showing Nov. 6-12 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nEddie Cochran died aged just 21\, yet his influence can still be heard in generations of artists from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to today’s contemporary artists. \nFrom BAFTA and Academy Award-winning producers and filmmakers Goldfinch comes the first official biography on rock & roll icon Eddie Cochran. “Eddie Cochran: Don’t Forget Me” is made in partnership with the Cochran Family Estate\, chronicling the extraordinary but tragically short life of the rock & roll pioneer\, with dramatic recreations featuring Jack Harris as Eddie Cochran and Frances Barber as his mother\, Alice Cochran. \nCochran’s influence is immeasurable. At just 21\, he left behind a body of work that would inspire generations of musicians and artists. A wonderful life. \n“Jimmy”\, the untold true story of America’s most-beloved actor and the iconic role that saved him\, focuses on the most transformative season in Jimmy Stewart’s life — from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II.  \nStewart flew twenty missions over Europe\, rising to the rank of colonel by the end of the war\, only to return home broken and disheartened. Then George Bailey and “It’s a Wonderful Life” came calling. \n“Jimmy” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Nov. 6-12. SUMMARY:Flagstaff Premiere: Old Man Lightning
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to partner with Theatrikos Theatre Company to bring movies to Downtown Flagstaff! \nThis series continues on Wednesday\, Nov. 11 with an encore screening of “Old Man Lightning” at 7:00 p.m. at Theatrikos Theatre Company. \nThe film is returning by popular demand after a sold-out show in August. \n“Old Man Lightning” may be the best climbing\, comedy\, comeback film ever made\, with a conservation twist. The film won the Best Climbing Film Award at the Banff International Film Festival and Bilbao Mendi Spain. \nCranky\, yet witty bouldering legend John “Verm” Sherman has lost his mojo and is jonesing to regain it. What better way than to climb the world’s most famous boulder problem\, Yosemite’s iconic Midnight Lightning? He climbed it 25 years ago\, but since then the climb has gotten harder and Verm’s gotten softer due to beerlust and a third-degree burning passion for bird photography. \n  \nStanding in his way is his age (57)\, weight (200 lbs)\, dozens of injuries\, and myriad health issues. Nevertheless\, he’s stubborn and determined. Verm needs to save condors from extinction\, and if leveraging his climbing celebrity will help\, he’ll stop at nothing. Verm enlists the assistance of Ryan “Meatball” Whited\, a cheerfully sadistic personal trainer and musculoskeletal guru. A 6-month mission to whip Verm back into shape ensues\, leading to a final confrontation with bouldering’s “Problem of Problems”. \nWhat could possibly go wrong in this comedic climbing comeback film? \n“I loved it. In my wildest dreams\, I could never have imagined a climbing film inspired by ‘Monty Python’ and ‘Rocky’. This movie made me laugh out loud\, but it also managed to be a poignant comeback story with the power to resonate with climbers and non-climbers alike.” — Maya Silver\, Editor-in-Chief\, Climbing Magazine \n \nThe evening includes a Q&A with the film’s director\, Dawn Kish. She is photographer and filmmaker\, who connects art\, adventure and advocacy. Kish received her first camera at the tender age of 17 and grew up in Flagstaff. Her passion for storytelling has led her to transform her captivating photographs into immersive films that have screened at The Banff Film Festival and Mountainfilm Telluride.
