SUMMARY:The Cycle of Love
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The Cycle of Love” showing Nov. 13-18 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \n“The Cycle of Love” premiered to rave reviews at the recent Illuminate Sedona gala screening event in September. The film is returning by popular demand for a theatrical run. \nDirected by Academy Award-winner Orlando von Einsiedel (“The White Helmets”) and executive produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas\, “The Cycle of Love” is an epic true-life odyssey that traces the enduring power of belief\, following one man’s willingness to risk everything in pursuit of a future he can scarcely imagine. \nAfter receiving a mysterious prophecy from an astrologer as a young boy\, PK\, a 23-year-old gifted artist from one of India’s poorest “untouchable” families\, spends years wondering if his destiny has already been written. Armed with little more than a handful of paintbrushes and a second-hand bicycle\, he ultimately embarks on a remarkable 6\,000-mile cross-continent mission to find Lotta\, the woman he believes he’s destined to love. \nPart epic adventure\, part spiritual journey\, and part timeless love story\, “The Cycle of Love” is an inspiring\, heart-warming\, epic true-life odyssey about the ultimate search for self-belief and what happens when you risk everything for what your heart tells you. \n“The Cycle of Love” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres Nov. 13-18. Showtimes will be Friday\, Nov. 13 at 4:00 p.m.; Saturday\, Nov. 14 at 3:30 and 7:00 p.m.; Sunday\, Monday and Wednesday\, Nov. 15\, 16 and 18 at 7:00 p.m.; and Tuesday\, Nov. 17 at 3:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:Barbara Forever
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Barbara Forever” showing Nov. 14-18 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \n“Barbara Forever” is an expansive\, immersive exploration of the life\, work\, and ongoing cultural impact of filmmaker Barbara Hammer — a pioneering artist who lived boldly\, created urgently\, and transformed cinema through her singular vision. Her films were an extension of herself: sensual\, experimental\, and unapologetically lesbian\, rooted in a profound desire for connection and an insistence on telling her own story. \nDriven by her canon of over eighty films\, a vast collection of unreleased archival materials\, and extensive audio interviews\, Brydie O’Connor’s portrait allows for Hammer’s voice and images to shine through\, becoming both a tribute and an extension of her legacy. \n“If we’re experimenting with our lives and the way we’re going to live\, our film and our art should also be experimental. It breaks tradition and makes you think in a broader way. It’s the way I experience the world.” – Barbara Hammer \n“Barbara Forever” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre Nov. 14-18. Showtimes will be Saturday\, Sunday and Monday\, Nov. 14\, 15 and 16 at 6:30 p.m.; and Tuesday and Wednesday\, Nov. 17 and 18 at 3:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:Arvel Bird's Mythical Animal Totems Concert
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to an extraordinary evening with the acclaimed violinist Arvel Bird\, affectionately known as “The Celtic Indian”. Join us on Wednesday\, Nov. 18 at 4:00 pm at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre\, for a performance that promises to be truly spellbinding. \nThis concert features the debut of Arvel’s latest series\, “Mythical Animal Totems\,” alongside brand-new music and videos from his signature “Animal Totems” collection. For centuries\, legends of supernatural beasts and fantasy creatures have captivated our imaginations. Arvel brings these myths to life through powerful orchestral rock compositions that capture the raw energy of the Azure Dragon\, the transformative spirit of the Phoenix\, the grace of the Unicorn\, the divine allure of the Mermaid\, and the formidable strength of the White Tiger\, among others. \nArvel’s mastery of the violin seamlessly weaves together genres of classical\, rock\, Celtic\, Latin\, and folk influences into a mystical tapestry of sound. To complete the immersive experience\, his music will be accompanied by the stunning visual artistry of Karen Reedstrom. Using cutting-edge technology\, she has created captivating “mini-cinematic movies” that will light up OTCA’s ‘cyclorama’ rear screen and provide a beautiful backdrop themed to Arvel’s musical performance. \n \nAbout Arvel Bird:\nCeltic fusion recording artist\, Arvel Bird\, is known around the world for his dramatic connection between Celtic and Native American traditions\, creating a musical experience that audiences love. Dubbed “Lord of the Strings” by fans and music critics\, his music evokes the soul of North American history and is thoroughly entertaining\, but also enlightening and humanizing. In a language and experience that captures the hearts and imagination of his audience. Reviewers have said\, “He’s emotional without being condescending\, intellectual without being pretentious.” One measure of any art form is when the medium is so finely executed that it becomes transparent\, allowing its message to be seen\, heard\, and felt. Arvel Bird is known for this level of performance art. \nAs a violinist\, flutist\, and composer\, Arvel was named by the prestigious Cowboy and Indian Magazine as one of the top 4 favorite Native American Musicians\, along with Buffy St. Marie and R. Carlos Nakai. \nWhen asked about his diverse background\, Arvel explained\, “I studied classical music for 11 years primarily so I could learn to play the violin and then go in my own direction. Celtic music was where I branched out first. It’s much like classical music in that it takes a lot of technique to play. It’s demanding and precise with a lot of ornamentation both with the left hand and the bow hand. Of course\, I have played a lot of other styles of music like Old Time fiddle\, bluegrass\, country\, blues\, jazz\, and rock\, but I always maintained my chops by playing Celtic music.” \nJoin us for this very unique concert experience\, featuring the debut of Arvel’s latest series\, “Mythical Animal Totems\,” alongside brand-new music and videos from his signature “Animal Totems” collection. \nArvel Bird will take the stage at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Wednesday\, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. All tickets include a meet-and-greet with Arvel Bird in the lobby after the show. \nFor tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.
