Like his stage performance\, the film traces an extraordinary life lived at the center of modern music history. \nFrom his early years as a child actor in 1950s London to the Swinging Sixties\, Asher emerges as a Zelig-like figure in the culture of the era: one half of the pop duo “Peter and Gordon\,” recipients of four chart-topping hits penned by Paul McCartney; the first head of A&R at Apple Records; and co-owner of the Indica Gallery\, the epicenter of London’s countercultural art scene. \nAsher helped define a generation of singer-songwriters as producer and manager for James Taylor\, Linda Ronstadt\, and others\, cementing his reputation as one of music’s most influential behind-the-scenes forces of the 1970s and ‘80s. It is now making its national theatrical debut. \nOn June 1\, 1972\, a humble production of a hit musical retelling of the Book of Matthew officially opened its run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in downtown Toronto. As for what happened next\, that may be most accurately expressed by the subtitle for Nick Davis’ celebratory documentary\, “You Had to Be There: How the Toronto ‘Godspell’ Ignited the Comedy Revolution\, Spread Love & Overalls\, and Created a Community That Changed the World (In a Canadian Kind of Way)”. \nAnd that’s no empty boast about a bunch of singing hippies. Based solely on the bright futures of so many of the talents who formed the cast during the 14-month run — Martin Short\, Eugene Levy\, Gilda Radner\, Victor Garber\, Andrea Martin\, Dave Thomas\, and Jayne Eastwood plus musical director Paul Shaffer — “Godspell’s” impact and influence cannot be overstated. The improvisational element of the musical itself helped foster a unique sensibility that comedy fans would soon recognize in “Saturday Night Live”\, “SCTV”\, and countless other TV shows and movies. \nAs Davis’ film reveals\, the Toronto “Godspell” was a hugely formative experience in the lives of the participants\, too. Rounding out the all-star cast are tenor Freddie De Tommaso as Macduff and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as Banquo. \nACT I\nScotland. A group of Witches tells Macbeth and Banquo\, leaders of the army\, that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland and that Banquo will be the father of kings. When the first part of the prediction unexpectedly comes true moments later\, the ambitious Lady Macbeth persuades her husband to murder King Duncan\, so he can himself ascend the throne. \nACT II\nMacbeth\, now king\, is worried about the prophecy that Banquo’s children will rule. He has him killed\, but Banquo’s son\, Fleance\, escapes. At a banquet\, Macbeth has a terrifying vision of the dead man accusing him. Everyone is shocked by his strange behavior. \nACT III\nThe Witches warn Macbeth to beware of Macduff\, another nobleman\, but assure him that “no man of woman born” can harm him\, and that he will be invincible until Birnam Wood marches on his castle. \nACT IV\nHis family killed by Macbeth\, Macduff has escaped to England. There\, he joins Malcolm\, Duncan’s son\, who is preparing to invade Scotland and take back the crown. Lady Macbeth\, haunted by her deeds\, goes mad and dies. English soldiers march on Macbeth’s castle\, camouflaged with the branches of Birnam Wood. Macduff confronts Macbeth and tells him that he had a Caesarean birth. A story that proves how family is fraught\, never really what it appears\, and\, despite it all\, so very necessary. \n \nBENJAMIN BOUCVALT (Actor/Writer)\nBenjamin Boucvalt has spent most of his career on stage doing classical work. He performed as a resident company member at Great River Shakespeare Festival continuously for the past 14 years. Notable performances include As You Like It/Orlando\, Julius Caesar/Cassius\, Midsummer/Oberon\, Winter’s Tale/Leontes\, Cymbeline/Iachimo\, and Romeo and Juliet/Romeo. Other theatres Benjamin has worked with include the Asolo Repertory Theatre\, Playmakers Repertory Company\, St. Petersburg Shakespeare Company\, and the Orlando Shakespeare Theater. Benjamin’s latest book\, “The Name Hennessy\,” was published in 2024. He voices one of the main characters in the audiobook that was also released that same year. It is a fully dramatized audiobook\, with individual actors reading each character\, all recorded together on stage. Benjamin is also an active martial artist and does fight choreography for stage and film across the country. \n \nCHRIS MIXON (Director)\nChris Mixon has spent over forty years as a professional actor\, director and theatre-maker in regional theatre and New York. He serves as artistic director of the Sedona Professional Theatre Company\, where he appeared recently as John Barrymore in Barrymore’s Ghost\, and as Morrie Schwartz in Tuesdays with Morrie\, and directed the hilarious Gutenberg! Fisher Theatre\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. \nFrench acoustic guitar virtuoso\, vocalist\, and composer Pierre Bensusan has taken his unique sound to all corners of the globe. \nWinner of the Independent Music Award for his triple live album “Encore”\, voted Best World Music Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine readers’ Poll\, winner of the Rose d’Or at the Montreux Festival for his debut album\, Pierre is recognized as one of the greatest guitar players of the 21st century. \nWhen Michael Hedges titles one of his compositions “Bensusan”\, you know that the inspiration behind it must be special\, and Pierre Bensusan certainly is. DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand: The Sedona International Film Festival announces award-winning recording duo Sirsy will be performing live in concert Wednesday\, Oct. 28 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in Sedona at 7 p.m. \nIt’s hard to imagine a sound this big coming from just two people. The Boston Globe calls Sirsy the “little band with the big sound.” Fans call them the little band with big heart. \nHailing from NY\, Sirsy plays compelling singer-songwriter rock and pop with a charming intensity\, a bit of sass\, lots of soul\, and loads of heart. They write honest\, engaging songs that are instantly relatable and catchy. The Times Union says “Sirsy’s clever\, smart songs have more hooks than a tackle box”. Sirsy’s passionate and down-to-earth live shows also include storytelling and even some nerdy jokes. They can somehow make an audience sing along\, dance\, laugh\, and cry — all at the same show. \n \nMelanie Krahmer’s passionate and immediately arresting vocals are sultry and seductive. They can be a floaty whisper or at times raspy and rocking – with a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek tone\, as if she’s singing with a wink. She has one of the most powerful and flexible voices you’ll ever hear. Mel is also the band’s drummer (and featured in Modern Drummer). She simultaneously plays bass on a keyboard with her drumstick. Live\, she also plays piano\, melodica\, and the occasional badass flute solo too. \n \nMel’s bandmate\, co-writer and husband/bestie is Rich Libutti. Rich masterfully plays a well-loved and road worn Rickenbacker through a pedal board full of vintage effects. He sounds like 3 guitarists all on his own. Clean enough to be enjoyed\, and just edgy enough to make you grin.” Rich also plays bass (and at live shows often does it on a pedal board with his feet). \nThese 2 multi-instrumentalists manage to sound like a full band and somehow do it all with big smiles on their faces. It’s clear they love what they do. And that love is contagious when you see them live. You can’t help smiling along with them. With song lyrics that center around empowerment and resilience\, it’s no surprise that Sirsy’s fans have supported the duo through the pandemic\, over a dozen records\, 20+ years of touring\, and Mel’s 2 bouts with cancer. Every show is like a celebration for this couple and their fans. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is teaming up with writer and moto-photo journalist Koz Mraz for a special FREE EVENT “Midnight Rider on a Graveyard Run” on Thursday\, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.  \n“Midnight Rider on a Graveyard Run” is based on a true story and part of the Koz Mraz Mystery Series.  \nIn 2012 Koz Mraz wrote an investigative journalism feature called “Midnight Rider on a Graveyard Run” based on his curiosity about the 8 million Americans who work the graveyard shift. His quest and discoveries became the catalyst for his best-selling action thriller book series. \nRide with him as this harrowing journey across the U.S. at night reveals the darker side of the mysterious graveyard shift. Where are the “Mispers” (missing persons)? According to the FBI\, in 2024\, there were 533\,936 missing person cases filed in the United States. What is the trail of buried bones in the Corridor of Death?  \nA book released in late 2025 by former FBI Director\, Frank Figliuzzi\, finally brings awareness to these daunting statistics.  Mraz followed this trail thirteen years ago\, and today these events are coming to light for our greater understanding. \nKozmo “Koz” Mraz\, an author and renown moto-photo journalist has published over 200 feature stories for prominent travel and lifestyle magazines. Koz traveled the world on two wheels. DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie” showing Oct. 30-Nov. 5 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nMore than 30 years after Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa\, a religious decree calling for the death of author Salman Rushdie over the publication of his novel The Satanic Verses\, Rushdie traveled to Chautauqua to speak about the United States as a sanctuary for exiled writers and artists. The event marked the 20th anniversary of a writer-refuge program — a setting meant to celebrate safety and creative freedom. It was there that a young man rushed the stage\, intent on killing him with a knife. Using excerpts from Rushdie’s works\, including his powerful memoir Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder\, Alex Gibney’s documentary is both a striking testament to freedom of expression and a defiant response to the attempt on Rushdie’s life. \nThe film incorporates never-before-seen footage shot by Rushdie’s wife\, Rachel Eliza Griffiths\, in the days and weeks following the attack. This material offers a graphic\, unflinching\, and deeply intimate account of what happened\, including archival footage of Rushdie’s early career and rise to literary fame\, the controversy surrounding The Satanic Verses\, and events leading up to the attempted murder. It also traces Rushdie’s physical and spiritual recovery\, including the challenges he continues to face\, from losing an eye to the reduced use of one hand. \n“Knife” blends reportage with fictionalized dialogues to explore the mindset of the attacker\, probing the “why” behind the violence. At its core\, the film is a portrait of resilience — of Rushdie’s own extraordinary strength and the love that carried him through this ordeal — and a call to action against censorship and hatred. It argues that art itself can be a form of resistance. \nIn “Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie”\, Gibney — working with longtime collaborators Andy Grieve (editor) and Will Bates (composer) — crafts a poetic dreamscape that reflects how Rushdie views his writing as his own “knife\,” a tool to fight back\, reclaim his story\, and respond to violence with imagination and art. \n“Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre Oct. 30-Nov. 5.
