SUMMARY:A Great Awakening
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present “A Great Awakening” showing May 29-June 4 at the Mary D. Fisher and Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatres. \n“A Great Awakening” tells the true story of an unlikely friendship between the Reverend George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin that resulted in one of the most defining moments in American history. \nWith the colonies on the brink of collapse\, the Reverend George Whitefield ignites the first Great Awakening\, uniting an entire generation with his thundering and faithful sermons and proclamations of liberty. SUMMARY:El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego: Met Live Opera
DESCRIPTION:The Mary D. Fisher Theatre is honored to be the home for the Met Live Opera programs for the 2025-2026 season\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. \nThe season concludes with Frank’s “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego” live via simulcast on Saturday\, May 30 at 10 a.m. and the encore presentation on Wednesday\, June 3 at 3 p.m. \nPlan to come early as John Steinbrunner will lead a pre-opera talk one hour before the LIVE production on Saturday. \nThe Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. \nFashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. \nMusic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera\, a “confident\, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker. \nACT I\nOn the Day of the Dead\, villagers gather in a cemetery to honor departed loved ones and summon them to return from the underworld. Diego calls out to Frida\, but his reverie is interrupted by an old woman selling flowers. The old woman reveals herself as La Catrina\, Keeper of the Dead. In Mictlān\, Catrina summons Frida to arise and return to visit Diego\, but Frida refuses. Frida notices a young actor\, Leonardo\, who wants to go back dressed as Greta Garbo to please a fan of the actress. He encourages Frida to return for the chance to paint a new Frida without pain or anguish. Frida decides she will return to the world of the living. As Diego continues to summon Frida from above\, she and the other departed souls begin their journey. \nACT II\nIn the world of the living\, Diego is bereft of inspiration. Frida suddenly appears to him. She is overjoyed to be without pain and part of the vibrant life around her. Diego pleads for an embrace\, which Frida cannot give. Diego leads Frida back to her home\, Casa Azul\, where she must confront the realities of her past life and the limitations of her return. She embraces him and is racked by the returning pain of her living existence. When dawn breaks\, it is time for her to return to the underworld. Diego pleads for the gods to call him back with her. As Frida and Diego approach the underworld\, Catrina cries out to Mictlantecuhtli\, god of the underworld\, who appears and brings Diego into the world of the departed. Frida and Diego are united for eternity. \nThe 2025-2026 Met Live Opera season in Sedona is generously sponsored by Chris Fladlien. \nThe Met Live Opera’s “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Saturday\, May 30 at 10 a.m. (live simulcast) with an encore on Wednesday\, June 3 at 3 p.m. The pre-opera talk will take place one hour before the live Saturday simulcast. \nTickets are $25 general admission\, $22 for Film Festival members\, and $15 for students. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. SUMMARY:Revolutionary America
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Revolutionary America” showing May 31-June 2 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \n“Revolutionary America” tells the story of the American Founding\, the greatest political achievement in history. The American colonists had developed a unique way of life as they practiced self-government for 150 years. \nIn the struggles between the colonies and the mother country that followed the French and Indian War\, Britain declared that Americans had no right to rule themselves. This went against everything the Americans knew. In response\, our ancestors risked their “lives\, fortunes\, and sacred honor” to fight the War for Independence. Against all odds\, they won\, and in victory formed a stable\, lasting republic. \nThis documentary — narrated by Tom Selleck and featuring interviews with prominent scholars and commentators — will help you see the Revolution through the eyes of the Americans who lived through it. With expert commentary\, historical documents\, compelling cinematography\, and beautiful music\, experience the Revolution like never before! \n“Revolutionary America” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre May 31-June 2. Showtimes will be Sunday\, May 31 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday\, June 1 and 2 at 7:00 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Sedona Poetry Slam
DESCRIPTION:The final Poetry Slam of the season — the Grand Slam — arrives Saturday\, June 6. Performance poets will bring high-energy\, competitive spoken word to Sedona’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre starting at 7:30 p.m. \nOpen Slam\nA poetry slam is like a series of high-energy\, three-minute one-person plays\, judged by the audience. Slam poetry is an art form that allows written page poets to share their work alongside theatrical performers\, hip-hop artists and lyricists. \n     \nPoets come from as far away as Phoenix\, Tucson\, Prescott and Flagstaff\, competing against local poets from Sedona and Cottonwood\, college poets from Northern Arizona University and youth poets from Verde Valley high schools. All types of poetry are welcome on the stage\, from street-wise hip-hop and narrative performance poems\, to political rants and introspective confessionals. Any poem is a “slam” poem if performed in a competition. All poets get three minutes per round to entertain and inspire the audience with their creativity. \nAnyone can sign up to compete in the slam for the $75 grand prize and $25 second-place prize. To compete in the slam\, poets will need three original poems\, each lasting no longer than three minutes. No props\, costumes nor musical accompaniment are permitted. The poets are judged Olympics-style by five members of the audience selected at random at the beginning of the slam.\nEmail foxthepoet@yahoo.com to sign up early to compete or by the Friday before the slam\, or sign up at the door the day of the slam. \n \nTickets and Venue\nThe Mary D. Fisher Theatre is located at 2030 W. SR 89A\, Suite A-3\, in West Sedona. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. For tickets\, call 928-282-1177 or click on the BUY TICKETS link to the right. \nThe prize money is funded in part by a donation from Verde Valley poetry supporters Jeanne and Jim Freeland. \nEmail foxthepoet@yahoo.com to sign up early to compete or by the Friday before the slam or at the door the day of the slam. For more information\, visit foxthepoet.blogspot.com. \n \nPoetry Slam\nFounded at the Green Mill Tavern in Chicago in 1984 by Marc Smith\, poetry slam is a competitive artistic sport designed to get people who would otherwise never go to a poetry reading excited about the art form when it becomes a high-energy competition. Poetry slams are judged by five randomly chosen members of the audience who assign numerical value to individual poets’ contents and performances. \n \nPoetry slam has become an international artistic sport\, with more than 100 major poetry slams in the United States\, Canada\, Australia and Western Europe. Slam poets have opened at the Winter Olympics\, performed at the White House and at the United Nations General Assembly and were featured on “Russell Simmons’ Def Poets” on HBO. \nSedona has sent four-poet teams to represent the city at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte\, N.C.\, Boston\, Cambridge\, Mass.\, Oakland\, Calif.\, Decatur\, Ga.\, Denver and Chicago.

SUMMARY:In the Living Room Music Series: Michael Kollwitz
DESCRIPTION:The “In the Living Room Music Series” welcomes a truly one-of-a-kind performer to the Sedona International Film Festival’s Mary D. Fisher Theatre. On Monday\, June 8th at 7:00 PM\, series creator Shondra Jepperson hosts Michael Kollwitz—a Billboard-charting recording artist\, award-winning composer\, and master of the rare and mesmerizing Chapman Stick. \nWith over 30 independent releases and a career spanning decades\, Michael is one of the few musicians in the world to have studied directly under Emmett Chapman\, the inventor of the “Stick.” Beyond his musical adeptness\, Michael is a renowned keynote speaker who helps organizations tap into their inner creativity. I’m excited to dive into his journey from Maui to the Billboard charts and explore how he balances the world of corporate sales with the soul of a composer.” \nExecutive Director Patrick Schweiss added: “I’m always amazed by the unique artists Shondra discovers for this series. Bringing a Chapman Stick master like Michael to our stage offers our audience a fresh\, unexpected musical experience. It’s that relaxed\, ‘anything-can-happen’ living room atmosphere that makes these nights so special\, especially when the audience gets to engage directly with such a gifted storyteller.” \nThe “In the Living Room Music Series” is supported by presenting sponsor Cleaner Quicker Car Wash\, alongside Sefton Engineering\, LaserGirl Skincare\, Sedona.biz and MoonBrew. 100% of the $20 ticket sales benefit the performing artists and the Sedona International Film Festival. \nIn the Living Room Music Series featuring Michael Kollwitz will take the stage at the Mary D. SUMMARY:Whale Fall
DESCRIPTION:Sedona International Film Festival presents the Northern Arizona premiere of “Whale Fall” on Tuesday\, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nChoreographer and artistic director\, Mayfield Brooks\, will be in Sedona to host the film and Q&A discussion following the screening. \n“Whale Fall” is an award-winning experimental dance film by choreographer Mayfield Brooks\, which won a 2021 Bessie Award (New York Dance and Performance Award). The film explores the decomposition of a whale on the ocean floor\, blending themes of black life\, ecology\, and the afterlife of the carcass. \n‘Whale Fall” considers how a whale’s life of darkness\, codas\, echolocations\, and vertical slumbering can choreograph a time of grief. No theater lights. No sets. No performance. No narrative. This is an encounter. What can a barren theater teach me? How does a Black artist dance in the abyss? How can the sperm whale’s life of darkness\, codas and echolocations choreograph this time of grief? How can I decompose this show? \n“Whale Fall” is an opera somewhere in the void\, an echo into darkness\, an orgiastic silence. A “whale fall” describes the process of a whale’s decomposition after it dies and falls to the ocean floor\, where it provides vital nutrients for deep sea creatures. \n \nMayfield Brooks\, choreographer/artistic director\nMayfield Brooks improvises while black and is based in Lenapehoking\, the unceded land of the Lenape people\, also known as New York City. Brooks is a movement-based performance artist\, vocalist\, urban farmer\, writer\, and wanderer. Brooks teaches and performs practices that arise from Improvising While Black (IWB)\, their interdisciplinary dance methodology which explores the decomposed matter of Black life and engages in dance improvisation\, disorientation\, dissent\, and ancestral healing. Brooks is the 2021 recipient of the biennial Merce Cunningham Award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts\, a 2021 Bessie/New York Dance and Performance Award nominee for “Whale Fall”\, and a 2022 Danspace Project Platform artist. They were a 2022-23 Hodder Fellow at Princeton University\, the 2024 Alma Hawkins Visiting Chair at UCLA with the World Arts and Cultures/Dance program\, 2025 Creative Time Research and Development Fellow. \n“Whale Fall” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Tuesday\, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission or $13 for Film Festival members. SUMMARY:Code of Creation
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the two-day-only Northern Arizona premiere of “Code of Creation” on Friday and Saturday\, June 12 and 13 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. \nMeet the filmmaker\, Mikki Willis\, who will be in Sedona to host the film and do a live Q&A discussion after each screening. He will be joined by special guest Gregg Braden (who is featured in the film) at the June 12 screening. \n“Code of Creation” follows renowned inventor David Schmidt as a search for new ways to treat cancer leads to an extraordinary and controversial discovery. Hidden codes within human DNA. \nAs Schmidt joins forces with scientists\, researchers\, and visionary thinkers to investigate the implications of this finding\, what begins as a scientific pursuit evolves into a shocking revelation that could challenge conventional understanding of healing\, human potential\, and the deeper patterns woven into life itself. \nIf the code for creation has been hidden within us all along\, are we on the verge of unlocking one of humanity’s greatest mysteries? \n \nMIKKI WILLIS\nBest-selling author and award-winning investigative filmmaker Mikki Willis is respected internationally for exposing corruption at the highest levels. His films have been used in high-profile criminal trials to exonerate innocent people from political persecution and to help secure victories in historic lawsuits against the most powerful forces in Big Media. \nIn 2005\, he launched Elevate Film Festival\, a global competition that challenged filmmakers to spotlight solutions to humanity’s greatest challenges. The one-of-a-kind event earned the title of “The World’s Largest Single-Screen Film Event.” Following a three-year tour\, the festival evolved into Elevate Films\, an independent\, cause-driven production company. Since then\, Elevate has created hundreds of breakthrough productions\, including record-setting viral videos\, television series\, documentaries\, and feature films. \nIn 2020\, Willis released the first installment of his documentary series\, Plandemic\, which was shared by more than one billion people worldwide\, making it the most viewed documentary series in history. Through his courageous work\, Willis has gained an international following among audiences seeking alternative perspectives on health\, governance\, and the role of the media in shaping public perception. \n \nGREGG BRADEN\nGregg Braden is a five-time New York Times best-selling author\, scientist and pioneer in the emerging paradigm bridging science\, social policy and human potential. \nFrom 1979 to 1991\, Gregg worked as a problem solver during times of crisis for Fortune 500 companies\, including Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) where he worked as a Senior Computer Systems Designer\, and Cisco Systems\, where he became the first Technical Operations Manager in 1991. \nHe continues problem-solving today\, and his research resulted in the 2003 discovery of intelligent information coded into the human genome and the 2010 application of fractal time to predict future occurrences of past events. \nGregg’s work has led to 18 film credits\, 13 award-winning books now published in over 40 languages\, and he was a 2020 nominee for the prestigious Templeton Prize established by Sir John Templeton to honor “outstanding individuals who have devoted their talents to expanding our vision of human purpose and ultimate reality.” \nHe has presented his discoveries in 34 countries on six continents and has been invited to speak to The United Nations\, Fortune 500 companies and the U. SUMMARY:Flag Day
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona theatrical premiere of “Flag Day” showing June 12-18 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \nOne flag. Many voices. In “Flag Day”\, a small-town community joins together to celebrate patriotism over partisanship. \nSet in the small farming community of Three Oaks\, Michigan — home to the nation’s largest Flag Day parade — “Flag Day” is a verité portrait of ritual\, identity\, and belonging in an era of deep political division. Somewhere between tradition and transformation lies this village\, whose annual parade has become a pageant of American aspiration and memory. \nOver the course of Flag Day weekend\, the film immerses viewers in the lives of a diverse cross-section of townspeople: veterans\, local business owners\, marching bands\, and volunteers who\, for one weekend each June\, create an event that is at once nostalgic and reflective of the tensions of our time. Their stories reveal both the beauty and the fragility of community life in a time of polarization. \nFlag Day was filmed in an observational\, verité style\, capturing moments of humor\, conflict\, and grace as the community prepares for its defining ritual. The film offers a ground-level portrait of civic life — a portrait that holds both the good and the hard truths of being American. The project asks what binds us together today and whether those bonds can still be renewed. \n“Flag Day” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre June 12-18. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Wednesday and Thursday\, June 12\, 13\, 17 and 18 at 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday\, Monday and Tuesday\, June 14\, 15 and 16 at 3:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. Fisher Theatre. \nMeet one of the main characters of the film. Mustang trainer and medicine horse facilitator Michelle Peterson will be in Sedona to host the film and do a live Q&A discussion after the screening. \n“Dance of the Wild” is an award-winning documentary that takes you on a poetic journey into humanity’s timeless bond and fascination with the wild horse — a connection that mirrors our relationship to nature\, spirit\, and the deeper layers of the soul. \nDirected by award-winning filmmaker Chance Foreman\, the film takes you through sweeping landscapes\, intimate stories\, and teachings rooted in natural law. It reveals why wild horses are more than symbols of American heritage — they are sentient\, mystical beings whose wisdom is vital to our survival and evolution. \n \nAt its heart\, the film celebrates the sacredness of Mustangs and the urgent need to protect and honor them as irreplaceable national treasures and profound teachers of the unseen world. \nAs modern pressures threaten both the Earth and all living beings\, “Dance of the Wild” invites viewers on a journey of remembrance: a return to heart\, to land\, and to the ancient magic shared between human and horse. \nUltimately\, the film poses a profound question: What if this sacred relationship holds the key to our collective healing and evolution? \n“Dance of the Wild” will be shown at the Mary D. SUMMARY:One Man Symphony by Fiddler on the Rock
DESCRIPTION:Can a Single Violin Heal the Soul? Discover Tyler Carson’s “One Man Symphony” in Sedona on Sunday\, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre\, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. \n“One Man Symphony by Fiddler on the Rock” is a one-of-a-kind violin concert featuring symphony soloist and multi-genre looper violinist\, Tyler Carson\, Fiddler on the Rock. \nThe concert features Tyler as a ‘one man symphony’ of sound\, thanks to the special effects and live recorded ‘looping’ that he utilizes to build layers of violin as rhythm\, percussion and interweaving melodies as “Living Music”. Along with his original music and often spontaneous live creations that flow from the energy of the audience and moment\, you may hear songs like ‘All Along the Watchtower’ (Jimi Hendrix)\, ‘Hallelujah’ (Leonard Cohen)\, and amazing mashups of popular songs that you have to hear to believe! Every moment is original\, inspirational heart centered music to sweep you away in musical wonder. \n \nWhen doctors said he’d never speak again Tyler Carson (Fiddler on the Rock) trusted in faith that recovery was possible. Traveling the world while sharing joy playing the violin\, his speech returned and Tyler discovered a music unlike any other through his fiddle\, his loop pedal and his audience united as one. He calls it “Living Music”. \n‘One Man Symphony’ is the inspirational concert experience that brought CBS Mornings to Sedona to create a feature piece on Tyler as Fiddler on the Rock. The debut national airing led to an encore airing in “best of the year” episode where he was featured alongside Dolly Parton. Through the evening you will experience the journey that took him from monthly botox injections in his throat\, to lessons with Josh Groban’s singing coach and from India to A-list celebrity house concerts; altogether\, a journey illuminating illness as an opportunity instead of an unending struggle. Uplifting\, inspiring and healing\,’One Man Symphony’ will wrap you in the hopeful promise of success through adversity and remind us all that the “impossible” is only a bold step yet to be taken. \nTyler exudes\, “I’m always so happy to play at Mary Fisher theater because it’s where it all started for me in Sedona and planted the seed of what became Fiddler on the Rock. Everyone who attends\, supports and curates this venue becomes a part of the music. I’m so grateful and enthused to play here again!” \nRecent testimonials from media and internationally acclaimed artist Lindsey Stirling suggest there’s a reason things keep getting better and better for Tyler: \n“What an inspiring young man.” — Natalie Morales\, CBS Mornings \n“That was so fun! You’re such a great player.” — Lindsey Stirling\, global music superstar & violinist \n“Sheer brilliance! Tyler is a musical genius.” — Patrick Schweiss\, Sedona International Film Festival \n \nABOUT TYLER CARSON\nTyler Carson has discovered a new genre for the violin: Living Music. Growing up trained as a classical violinist (professional symphony soloist age 13\, first violin Canadian National Youth Orchestra) and a folk ‘fiddler’ simultaneously (MainStage folk festivals\, opening for Brooks&Dunn\, The Chieftains and Irish Rovers)\, Tyler was always headed in a unique direction. One Man Symphony embodies the rebirth of this musician’s life who toured to multiple continents in person and on TV as a child star and culminated as a featured performer on the Jerry Lewis Telethon between Savion Glover and Jason Alexander at age 16. As an adult and matured artist Tyler’s music constantly seeks to redefine expectation\, “I’ve never felt that music came from me; it always felt like it came through me.” \nA musical turning point came for Tyler when he traveled to India in February 2013. He was asked to perform a solo violin performance in Auroville ‘International City of Peace’ in south east India. The performance occurred at the end of a deep spiritual process and graduate project as an Integrative Energy Healer. Tyler was blessed to have the performance recorded and featured on Auroville radio. The first performance of its kind\, it became his debut solo album “Living Violin”. Since then a synergy has followed his musical exploration as a solo violinist. Meditation practices have opened a direct heart centric musical expression enhanced by technique derived through tai-chi and qi-gong coached by local Master Rob Mann and world renowned Master George Xu who described Tyler’s playing\, “your body and his instrument vibrate together as one”. In performance and connected heart to heart with an audience\, his art can only be described as Living Music. \n“One Man Symphony by Fiddler on the Rock” takes the stage on Sunday\, June 14 at 7 p.m. at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre. Tickets are $44 general admission; $55 VIP tickets (includes premium seating\, a personalized signed album and a complimentary glass of wine). \nFor tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.
