SUMMARY:Just Sing
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Just Sing” showing May 1-7 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre. \n“Just Sing” follows a pivotal season with the SoCal VoCals\, one of the country’s top collegiate a cappella groups\, as they pursue a record-setting sixth ICCA title. With graduation looming and expectations high\, the ensemble faces the pressure of competition alongside the uncertainty of what comes next. \nDirectors Angelique Molina and Abraham Troen take an intimate approach\, capturing rehearsals\, rivalries\, and the personal histories that shape each performer’s voice. From campus practice rooms to national finals\, the film balances dynamic performances with unguarded\, behind-the-scenes moments\, offering a close look at the discipline\, camaraderie\, and transition that define the chapter of the group’s lives. \nWell known alumni of the group include songwriter Ross Golan ’01\, who penned No. 1 Billboard hits for Maroon 5\, Justin Bieber\, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban; two-time Grammy-winning Pentatonix vocalist Scott Hoying and music arranger Ben Bram ’10; Broadway performers James Snyder ’03 (If/Then)\, Donald Webber Jr. ’08 (Motown\, the Musical\, Severance\, Hamilton)\, Catherine Ricafort ’09 (Allegiance) and Bryce Ryness ’02 (Matilda\, the Musical); and actress-singer-songwriter Kelley Jakle ’11\, who played Jessica in Pitch Perfect. In 2016 the group performed at the White House for President Obama and Michelle. \n“Joyful … triumphant!” — Forbes \n“Heartfelt and genuine.” — Broadway World \n“Just Sing” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon Theatre May 1-7. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday and Monday\, May 1\, 2 and 4 at 3:30 p.m.; and Tuesday\, Wednesday and Thursday\, May 5\, 6 and 7 at 6:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist
DESCRIPTION:The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” showing May 1-7 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres. \nFrom the Academy Award-winning filmmakers behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Navalny”. A father-to-be tries to figure out what is happening with all this AI insanity. “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” is a hand-made\, eye-opening documentary about the most powerful technology humanity has ever created … and what’s at stake if we get it wrong. \nA vital exploration of the revolutionary technology and the people behind it — from the major figures fast-tracking its development to the ones warning us about its dangers — the film\, directed by Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell\, is at once a thrilling primer\, a call to attention\, and an intimate personal story about what it means to look toward an uncertain future. \nIn “The AI Doc”\, Roher embarks on a winding odyssey to understand this unwieldy\, game-changing development\, interviewing a range of AI skeptics and champions\, pessimists and optimists\, realists and major power players — including CEOs such as OpenAI’s Sam Altman\, Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis\, and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei. Out of that deep dive emerges a tangle of momentous questions: Is humanity doomed? Are we living during the most promising time in human history or on the precipice of an age of extinction? What will become of us? \n“The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres May 1-7. Showtimes will be Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday and Monday\, May 1\, 2\, 3 and 4 at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday\, May 5 and 6 at 3:30 and 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday\, May 7 at 3:30 p.m. \nTickets are $12\, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.

SUMMARY:Sirsy Concert
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand: The Sedona International Film Festival announces award-winning recording duo Sirsy will be performing live in concert Thursday\, May 7 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre in Sedona at 7 p.m. \nIt’s hard to imagine a sound this big coming from just two people. The Boston Globe calls Sirsy the “little band with the big sound.” Fans call them the little band with big heart. \nHailing from NY\, Sirsy plays compelling singer-songwriter rock and pop with a charming intensity\, a bit of sass\, lots of soul\, and loads of heart. They write honest\, engaging songs that are instantly relatable and catchy. The Times Union says “Sirsy’s clever\, smart songs have more hooks than a tackle box”. Sirsy’s passionate and down-to-earth live shows also include storytelling and even some nerdy jokes. They can somehow make an audience sing along\, dance\, laugh\, and cry — all at the same show. \n \nMelanie Krahmer’s passionate and immediately arresting vocals are sultry and seductive. They can be a floaty whisper or at times raspy and rocking – with a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek tone\, as if she’s singing with a wink. She has one of the most powerful and flexible voices you’ll ever hear. Mel is also the band’s drummer (and featured in Modern Drummer). She simultaneously plays bass on a keyboard with her drumstick. Live\, she also plays piano\, melodica\, and the occasional badass flute solo too. \n \nMel’s bandmate\, co-writer and husband/bestie is Rich Libutti. Rich masterfully plays a well-loved and road worn Rickenbacker through a pedal board full of vintage effects. He sounds like 3 guitarists all on his own. SXSW music blog says “The guitar player is flawless and raw. Clean enough to be enjoyed\, and just edgy enough to make you grin.” Rich also plays bass (and at live shows often does it on a pedal board with his feet). \n \nThese 2 multi-instrumentalists manage to sound like a full band and somehow do it all with big smiles on their faces. It’s clear they love what they do. And that love is contagious when you see them live. You can’t help smiling along with them. With song lyrics that center around empowerment and resilience\, it’s no surprise that Sirsy’s fans have supported the duo through the pandemic\, over a dozen records\, 20+ years of touring\, and Mel’s 2 bouts with cancer. Every show is like a celebration for this couple and their fans. Come celebrate life with them! \n \nSirsy’s warmed stages for Brandi Carlile\, Maroon 5\, Train\, Grace Potter\, Joan Jett\, Cheap Trick\, Collective Soul\, Blues Traveler\, Spindoctors\, Adam Ezra Group\, Lifehouse & many more. They’ve had songs on the hit tv show “Shameless”\, the NFL\, HBO\, MTV\, and PBS. Their latest single\, “Stupid Little Heart” (Jan 7\, 2025) debuted at #10 on the folk chart. They are regulars on NPR. In 2024\, Sirsy was given the lauded ‘Thomas Edison Music Award’ for “rock/pop artist of the year” and “Record of the year” and in 2023 “solo/duo artist of the year”. Their last several records were produced by Grammy-Winner Paul Q Kolderie. The SXSW Music Blog says “Sirsy’s not just a 2 piece but a head scratching WOW!” And the Houston Music Blog says “Sirsy makes edgy feel-good music that’s fun to watch. You must see them live!” \n“Sirsy is your favorite band\, you just don’t know it yet.” – Rochester City Newspaper \nSirsy LIVE in Concert will take the stage at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday\, May 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. All tickets include a meet-and-greet with Sirsy in the lobby after the show. \nFor tickets and more information\, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A\, in West Sedona.
