ROBERT SHIELDS: MY LIFE AS A ROBOT, DRIVING MADELEINE TAKE TOP HONORS AT 30TH ANNUAL SEDONA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
SEDONA, Ariz.
Robert Shields: My Life as a Robot won Best of Fest Documentary and the Marion Herrman Excellence in Filmmaking awards, and Driving Madeleine captured Best of Fest Narrative at the 30th annual Sedona International Film Festival
Directed by Marc Bonn and Christine Seibert Bonn, who also produced the film, Robert Shields: My Life as a Robot chronicled the career of the artist who Marcel Marceau called “the greatest mime in America.” The film was among nearly 150 that were screened during the Festival’s nine-day run.
Driving Madeleine, a film from director Christian Carion who shared writing credits with Cyril Gely, follows Madeleine and her taxi driver, Charles, who takes his passenger through momentous locations of her life en route to the nursing home she was moving into. The film was produced in France and Belgium.
Other highlights of the Festival included To Kill a Tiger, winning Best Documentary Feature, Tokyo Cowboy named Best Narrative Feature – Drama, and The Price of Truth named Best International Documentary. To Kill a Tiger is the story of Ranjit, a farmer in rural India who takes on the fight of his life when he demands justice for his 13-year-old daughter, a victim of a terrible village sexual assault. Tokyo Cowboy follows brash Japanese businessman Hideki who convinces his Tokyo bosses he can turn a profitless U.S cattle ranch into a premiere-performing asset. The Price of Truth is a chilling documentary about Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov, editor of what had been Russia’s last independent newspaper, whose vision was permanently damaged when a masked attacker poured paint laced with acetone over his face. The attack did not stop his commitment to advocating for the importance of free speech.
Special awards went to Wendie Malick (7000 Miles) for Outstanding Actress; Randal Kleiser (Grease) who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Directing; and Gary Mule Deer (Show Business is My Life, But I Can’t Prove It), who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy.

Awesome - well deserved retrospective. I met you at the 10 year Grant High School reunion. I was there with a girlfriend, feeling anonymous, positive no one would remember me. Typical of me, I observed the room. I watched a cluster of people surrounding someone, a curiosity. It was an oddity, I had no clue what it was about, and I carried on with the evening. Sometime later my girlfriend and I found ourselves talking to a handsome classmate. In retrospect it might have been because I was apart from the crowd. Turned out this classmate had been the center of attention in that earlier cluster. We spoke for some time that evening. I've always thought we shared that time because I had no idea who you were. To me you were a former classmate, not a well known personality. So my former classmate, thanks for the memory.10 weeks ago Mark Bonn
