Outdoor Film: Yankee Doodle Dandy

Outdoor films are coming to the Village! The Sedona International Film Festival is partnering with Village of Oak Creek Association to present its “Movies on the Move” outdoor film experience on Mondays throughout the summer.

Join us on Monday, July 6 when we present “Yankee Doodle Dandy” outdoors at the Village of Oak Creek Association Park, next to the clubhouse.

“Yankee Doodle Dandy” was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning three Oscars for Best Sound, Best Musical Score and Best Actor for James Cagney.

“Yankee Doodle Dandy” (1942) is a biographical musical starring James Cagney as George M. Cohan, the legendary “father of American musical comedy” — known for patriotic songs like Yankee Doodle Dandy, You’re a Grand Old Flag and Over There. Told mostly in flashback, the film follows Cohan’s rise from a child vaudeville performer to a Broadway superstar, songwriter, and patriot, concluding with a visit to the White House to receive a Congressional Gold Medal from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket and relax in front of a massive outdoor movie screen. Enjoy food and beverage offerings from the festival’s “Movies on the Move” mobile concession stand.

“Yankee Doodle Dandy” will be shown outdoors at the VOC Association Park (690 Bell Rock Boulevard in the Village of Oak Creek) on Monday, July 6 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7:00 p.m. Parking is free and available onsite.

Tickets are only $10 each, and kids 12 and under are free of charge.

For advance tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Visit the film festival office at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona to get tickets in person.
