Outdoor Film: Blazing Saddles

Outdoor films are coming to the Village! The Sedona International Film Festival is partnering with Village of Oak Creek Association to present its “Movies on the Move” outdoor film experience on Mondays throughout the summer.

Join us on Monday, July 13 when we present “Blazing Saddles” outdoors at the Village of Oak Creek Association Park, next to the clubhouse.

“Blazing Saddles” (1974) — nominated for three Academy Awards — is a satirical comedy and Western spoof directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Madeline Kahn and Harvey Korman. The film follows a corrupt politician who appoints a Black railroad worker as sheriff of a racist frontier town in a greedy scheme to drive out residents and steal their land. Instead of chaos, the clever sheriff outsmarts the villains.

Crafty railroad worker Bart (Cleavon Little) becomes the first black sheriff of Rock Ridge, a frontier town about to be destroyed in order to make way for a new railroad. Initially, the people of Rock Ridge harbor a racial bias toward their new leader. However, they warm to him after realizing that Bart and his perpetually drunk gunfighter friend (Gene Wilder) are the only defense against a wave of thugs sent to rid the town of its population.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket and relax in front of a massive outdoor movie screen. Enjoy food and beverage offerings from the festival’s “Movies on the Move” mobile concession stand.

“Blazing Saddles” will be shown outdoors at the VOC Association Park (690 Bell Rock Boulevard in the Village of Oak Creek) on Monday, July 13 at dusk. Seating will begin at 7:00 p.m. Parking is free and available onsite.

Tickets are only $10 each, and kids 12 and under are free of charge.
